I’ve been a fan of Reynvaan wines for a few years now, but this is the first time I’ve had their Stonessence. Their “In The Rocks” bottle has been a favorite and while there are a lot of similarities between the two, I found this to have a more powerful profile, albeit a touch less funk driven aromatically. If you haven’t tried these wines but love Cayuse, these are up your alley.

Pop and pour. Compared to their other offerings, this is 100% Syrah, so nothing is co-fermented. That’s fairly apparent on the nose as it doesn’t have that intensely lifted profile...it still sports classic “Rocks” funk with peppered salami, potpourri, black olive and dark coffee grounds. This comes across darker and more black fruit driven than their other wines, lending more notes of scorched black cherries, teriyaki jerky, iron, and tar on the palate. Great use of stems/whole clusters. I followed this over two days and it was just as gorgeous on day two. Very nicely integrated. Likely in a peak drinking window where it should reside for a few more years easily.

A very earthy and distinct wine with an array of smoke pepper and dried meats very complex array of dark plum dark cherry and fine herbs very complex array of aromas. A very nuanced and savory wine fresh berry pie like fruit and a zesty fresh finish. Finish 50+. Killer!

Plenty of funk but not medicinal like I find some of the higher end WA syrah’s to be. In a great window right now.

Resurfacing waterfalls with a bit of Syrah in hand, hence the jacked up glass
