Having never tried a Tempranillo grown in California I didn't know what to expect and didn't have high expectations for this young Monterey County wine, but it was a pleasure to drink. Tannic, but nowhere near it's grandparents from back home. Opens with cloves, fennel, oregano and some black fruit as it develops in the glass. Nothing sophisticated here but it shows an intelligent restraint by the wine maker to not extract too much from those skins and to keep a nice acidity without adding and going overboard.
