Rubicon Estate RC Reserve Syrah
Rutherford, Napa Valley, California, USA
Big letters, big ABV, big brooding wine. Smells like toasted wood, summer berry pie and wet stone. Flavors are very clean and crisp. Lots of juicy berry (Black, Bosen, Marion), hint of flavored Dutch licorice, and a dusty dark chocolate truffle perhaps? This is a luscious and fully figured Syrah with, for whatever reason, some CA fancy Cab Sauv stuff around the edges for me. It’s nice. It’s not funky or dense enough to fully scratch the Syrah itch though. Could use more mushroom, rare red meat, and pipe tobacco stuff. Hint too fruity as well.
