Dark ruby hue, near opaque. Aromas of blackberry, chocolate, leather, plum, and tar. Full-bodied, with robust (yet rounded) tannins and medium acidity. Strong, albeit smooth, finish of black fruit, earthy, and pepper. Complex yet accessible. Opens up over time, and well worth the wait.

Thankfully, this was more Northern Rhone than Aussie. At the same time, a little simple. I’d be disappointed to pay the $40 list price for this, but it wasn’t bad for the $15 I paid.

Unusual, slightly unpleasant on the nose, but peppery, lacking the finish and tannins I was looking for.
