Went to the Demarie winery, started in the 70s by a guy and carried on by two sons. One of them, Paolo, explained in our tasting that this bottle, more than any represented his family and legacy. Paolo was a super nice guy so it would’ve been hard not to like this wine even if it tasted like spoiled vinegar. But I left persuaded that Roero is a legit appellation, which, at its best, can hang with Nebbiolos grown and bottled across the Tanaro in Barbaresco, thanks to the nice aromas of red fruits and leathery tones.
