The Dead Arm McLaren Vale Shiraz
McLaren Vale, Fleurieu, South Australia, Australia
Funny thing about drinking this after the Grange, there were so many similar flavors, yet they seemed about the same place in their evolution. Smoky and leathery. Held up well, in my opinion.

Wild, brambly, leathery, earth, black pepper, Spicy. A real gem!

With my bottle I have to disagree with recent reviews. What we have here is a hollowed out, decrepit, less abled (forgive my poor pun) bottle. The nose and textures are interesting, but the palette is a runaway, melty acidic runoff.
Unlike its more endowed 2001 sibling, this 1998 bad boy has lost the little mojo it received at birth. And its remaining arm. Drink up now.

I have no business drinking some of these wines, but am so glad to have been included in this blind tasting.

1998... Right at the point where the fruit is fading and cedar and forest floor aromas are pushing through. Drink now. Surprised how well his has hung in there.
