Second vintage of the Las Madres Syrah from Benevolent Neglect Wines. Deep and dark ruby red with a purplish hue. Love the attack of the nose. Coated with iron and gamey notes. Nose started to mellow out with some more complex notes of limestone, and spiced or curried veggies. Definitely felt like a top tier Northern Rhone-style Syrah. Slight minerality and olives on the palate. Smooth and rounded with some savory elements. Moderate tannins (6.5/10) and medium plus body. Some woody textures in the finish, long and lingers. Just keeps getting more complex as it breathes. Expect this to get even better with age but drinking deliciously right now. Drink till 2026.

Wish we gave this a bit of more air. But this was remarkably refined for new world Syrah. Gamey iron notes, which rich yet supple fruit, and great vanilla spice notes. I expect this will be even better in 5-10 years, but at 22 cases produced will be hard to find and harder to keep a cork in.
