Damn! This wine was simply badass last night. Scintillating acidity, judo-like palate weight, explosive with apple and key lime in the nose and lots of smoky CLR. Excellent new producer imported by the Source. Longtime producer in Meursault with low profile. Excellent vineyard work and elegant extractions. Doing great work with more humble holdings. Great bargain.

An interesting wine. Cossais, the vigneron, died in 2009. This was one of his last wines. He trained under the Foucault brothers, among others, and was well loved. The wine, with 8 years on it, was rich and satiny with a deep mushroom-steeped umami. Gentle and soft, it was a lovely drink and a credit to the memory of its maker.

A man, unknown to 99.999% of wine drinkers, from an area also unknown to 99.999% of wine drinkers; but this man, steward to the land that he would one day pass to a dedicated heir . . . a man who was a whisperer, who allows the drinker to experience his tiny spot on earth via the glass.

Absolutely smoking tonight. Impossible complexity, and that's not just for a Cotes du Rhone. Savory and sweet simultaneously with ringing acidity and a gentle flow. Went beautifully alongside swordfish and blood oranges. — 9 years ago
