Massive, sexy fruit-forward Pinot Noir from Zio Tony vineyard in the heart of Laguna Ridge. Good vintages of this cuvée are on par with the Cohn in my opinion, and this might be my favorite one yet. On night 3 this really opened up and showed some brooding dark berries, cola and sandalwood, laced with earth and spice. Already quite layered and complex, but needs a year or two in Bottle to show more defined flavors. Big oak tannins are still prevalent. Outstanding effort from an unusually low yielding harvest, this wine has some serious future ahead of it. — 8 years ago

2012 vintage. West Sonoma Coast. 78% Red Car Estate Vineyard and 22% Zio Tony Vineyard. Abv. 13,5%. French oak (16%new). 15% stems. Dark berries and pepper in the nose. Attractive juicy blackberry fruit, slightly rustic but well-integrated tannin, fresh acidity and good spicy length. — 8 years ago

Fabulous older California Chardonnay. Not much acid left (it had all precipitated out), but still rich and very enjoyable. undoubtedly a but past prime for my palate. I tend to prefer to err on the side of drinking California Chardonnay too young rather than chance them being too old, so I wouldn’t hold it any longer if I had it. On the other hand, I certainly wouldn’t pass up a glass if you are offered this. Not sure how anyone could rate this a lot lower unless they had a flawed bottle, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. Thanks Dan. — 8 years ago
