With rain clouds approaching and an autumn chill in the air, it was time to roast beef and dig out something delicious from my collection. One of my fave Zin makers. This one with dashes of carignane and petite Syrah. Intensely flavored with ripe dark fruit, pencil shavings and baking spices. Lots of acid to lift the richness. Long finish of fruit and spice. — 8 years ago

This wine is in a GOOD spot right now. CT Average of about 93, and I'd say that this is about right. 93-95 as this one still has probably 7-8 years before it is pop and pour. Acidic at the opening, but the patience (which we didn't have) would have served us well. Cabernet power from the front. Blackberry preserves, hint of mint, white pepper, hint of clove, middle that goes a little bit herbal, but still very considerable black fruit. Finishes strong, with pepper, spice. I know the last 750 I have is in danger, and hopefully I can also lay off the mag for at least a couple of years. — 6 years ago

Lovely bottle of the ‘87 opened May 2019. I don’t have much experience with older vintages but seemed to have aged well although maybe a bit past it’s prime. Smooth and balanced with good depth of flavor. Perfect for a rich beef dinner with smashed Yukon golds and gravy. — 5 years ago
