Voerzio Martini

Special Selection California Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 1969

Definitely fading and very much tasted of hotdogs on the palate. The nose was still pretty interesting — 5 years ago

La Serra Barolo Nebbiolo 2012

A lot going on but still too young. The tannins are too powerful and intense for me. But there is a lot of dark fruit and complexity present. — 6 years ago

Surprise! Bordeaux like in the nose showing cassis, cedar and mocha. This was the best 65 that I have ever tasted and everyone's favorite of the flight. — 9 years ago

Capalot Delle Brunate Riserva Barolo Nebbiolo 2001

The Voerzio Capalot/Brunate 01 (mag) was the third WOTN for me. A perfect Voerzio expression. Hell of a nose and intensity/concentration. Much fresher and more vivid than a 09 I had last weekend. 01 seems to rock here again. Bright red stone fruit, dark roses and flowers, coffee bean, some mocha, tarry irony minerals. You kinda feel the old vines here. Wow. — 6 years ago

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

This was our second bottle. First was uninspiring and despite the 97pt RP rating, found it to be disappointing. The trick is to let it breathe for at least an hour to let the flavors develop. It is no Opus One but very satisfying with a juicy steak or just plain enjoyment! — 7 years ago

Brunate Barolo Nebbiolo 2004

For sure a sexier version of Barolo. Heavier weight and grippier tannin. The dark fruit and cocoa powder is prominent. I like it. But it would get old after a while — 8 years ago

Vanilla! Certainly a modern style. Fruit forward with dark fruit. It's like no other Barolo I have had. Very enjoyable.

@Hugh O'Riordan yes it was all very subtle and pretty but definitely some smooth but tart cherry fruit and hints of baking spices

Sarmassa di Barolo Nebbiolo 2009

2009 has made a wine that is more accessible now, feel free to open it up but make sure to give it plenty of air. The nose is generous, tar, roses, sappy red fruits and licorice, savory for sure. The palate is a little less generous and firm, but unlike 2010, more enjoyable now.
