Very good, smooth Rhône, easy drinking. Delicious, not too heavy — 7 years ago
Blend of Grenache dominated wine with Syrah and Mourvèdre added in the blend, Ruby with aromas of red fruits, floral and spice. On the palate flavors of cherry and plum with licorice, black pepper, herbs and tobacco notes. Long finish, fine tannins ending with fruit, cacao and earthy spice. Pair with beef or game meats, a big wine just starting to drink well. — 2 years ago
Another fabulously pure wine in this eclectic range of southern Rhône experimental cuvées from Xavier Vignon, this time a 100% Mourvèdre from old vines around Vinsobres, from the 2015 vintage.
The nose is large and herbaceous with a great juxtaposition of floral qualities with waves of deep, generous, dark fruit. There’s also spice, camphor, and vanilla best sniffed from a large glass.
The wine is full bodied on the palate, but with great purity and very supple tannins. The finish finds a sweet note and carries on with good length.
Impressive stuff for a Vin de France priced at around £15-20. This is so youthful even now with seven years of age, so I’d love to try it again in years to come. — 3 years ago
2016 vintage. Domaine Vallot, Vinsobres. Old vine blend of Syrah and Grenache at 300-350 meters altitude in front of the Mont Ventoux. Biodynamically farmed. This estate was consulted by the late Christian Prud'homme. Intense perfume of black cherry jam and dried herbs. Powerful with layers of jammy fruit, balanced by fresh acidity. Long finish. Impressive. — 5 years ago
Mature well rounded. Tastes like a good Chateauneuf ! — 6 years ago
A really nice surprise and very different from most other Cotes du Rhone I’ve enjoyed.
A negocient wine from a legendary Gigondas house, 100% Syrah from two plots in Vinsobres and Gard
Medium Ruby with Medium (+) intensity and aromas and flavours of Black Plum, stewed black cherries, roast strawberries, violet, thyme, black olive and black pepper. The wine is meaty (raw bacon), gamey and smoky with leather, tobacco and liquorice.
Dry, medium (+) acidity, medium (+), soft ripe tannins, high alcohol but very well integrated, medium body, medium (+) intensity and finish.
Very good almost outstanding wine, just needs a little more depth, body and a longer finish. — 6 years ago
Wine tastes better when you’ve visited the vineyard. #placebo #Vinsobres — 7 years ago
Blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, Ruby with aromas of red fruits, floral and spice. On the palate flavors of cherry and plum with licorice, black pepper and leafy tobacco notes. Long finish, fine tannins ending with fruit, cacao and spice. Pair with beef or game meats, a big wine not ready to drink. — 2 years ago
Fantastic value, like a Syrah based chateau de tours — 4 years ago
Excellent entry-level wine from revered Hermitage producer Jean-Louis Chave’s negociant line, a blend of Grenache and Syrah from plots in Vinsobres, Visan, Buisson, and Estargues in the Southern Rhône. Aromas of
dark fruit, game and spice. Integrated oak. Smooth and delicious 🤤 — 6 years ago
All fruit for this cuvée comes from Vinsobres (Guigal’s new source for CDR blends). Has the lift, acids and balance that ‘15 and ‘16 lacked a bit. Big dollop of pure, clean, juicy Syrah makes this a cut above. No simple little Grenache here. Fraises, ripe plums, grated spice. — 6 years ago
