This past Saturday I attended a get together with close friends. We opened the 2014 Saarloos & Sons Family Tree Rhone Blend. 55% Grenache, 27% Mourvedre and 18% Syrah. This was the hit of the evening that turned heads and got people talking.
The nose was light with cherry, raspberry, plum, cinnamon, black pepper, anise, roses and an earthy gravel.
On the palate was beautiful fruit of black cherry, blackberry, plum, black pepper, anise , clove and a good gravel component.
The wine was soft velvety smooth with a medium mouth feel and medium to plus acidity with medium smooth tannin that leads to a medium long finish. A very enjoyable wine. Almost the weekend please be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 7 years ago

1989 Vega Sicilia Unico Gran Reserva Ribera Del Duero Temperanillo blend. Drank at Reddwood for A&S' birthday lunch. Epic. This wine was amazing! Couldn't believe how young it tasted and how complex it was. This was a real treat. — 9 years ago

Back at Palma Real Reserve and another Pintia (‘10 this time). Better than the ‘12 last year, exotic nose leading a rich and full-bodied beast. Black cherry and Asian spice, smooth and loaded with fine tannins. Would score higher but started to fall apart somewhat after an hour - i’d PnP this if I owned it. The third wine of the evening this past Saturday was the 2014 Saarloos & Sons Jongen Windmill Ranch Estate Grenache. This was my particular favorite but all three that night were splendid.
The nose gives notes of black cherry, blackberry, light tobacco, vanilla, floral notes, spice and earth.
On the palate there was black cherry, raspberry, a bit of strawberry, black currant, licorice, allspice, herbal notes and a good earth component.
The wine is fleshy medium to full bodied with medium + acidity and high grippy tannins that lead to a long fruit filled finish. Enjoy your start of the weekend and please be safe. — 7 years ago
Day 3: Heavy mushrooms framed by sage and cedar, with chamomile and pork fat. There is persimmon, nutmeg, dried grapes, tar, dark raisin bread, tobacco leaf, and poppy seed. This thing was an unwieldy wooden baton on Saturday night; a real leather daddy. It has since opened into a lumberjack in a leather tunic felling a large birch near a meadow of scorched wildflower. He’s sweating, and lightly peppered. Grilled apple, eel skin, dried black currant, dried roses, rawhide, marinated plum, and a tart persistence that is neither graphite, or smoke, but something similar with a dry-rubbed saline-sweetness in the mix.
