See previous note from January 2022. Has lost its primary red fruited characters of raspberry and strawberry from its youth. More musky and earthy these days. From 72 year old Grenache vines in the Old McDonald vineyard in McLaren Vale. Steve Pannells winemaking touch still evident with excellent material - a great combination. — 2 years ago
Seductive nose of blueberry, cassis, cedar, dark roasted coffee bean,, nutmeg, peppery spice, touch of barnyard, and hint of tobacco. Probably the most harmonious palate I’ve had in an Aussie Shiraz. The oak and alcohol are totally integrated, with ample acidity and soft elegant tannins. Powerful and graceful.

1999 vintage decanted in 2023. Love it! Deep ruby color. Beautiful bouquet. Well balanced cab. Deep dark fruit and leather. — 9 months ago
Medium bodied with zesty citrus and underripe stone fruit. Crisp, clean, and petrol-y. — 5 years ago
Great purity of fruit. Nicely integrated oak with very modern style. Light tannin for a cab. None of the jam pursued by past vintners but still great bright fruit. Perhaps best with a few more years in bottle. — 7 years ago
Earthier and more sedate than I expected for down under. — 8 years ago

Wow avec un steak!! Mais surtout en bonne compagnie!!! — 9 years ago
An absolutely gorgeous Shiraz - and a steal for the price. Black pepper, licorice, and dark fruits on the nose, deliciously rich textbook flavors on the palate, but not overwhelming. Balanced and nuanced. Mile long finish. Beautiful. — 9 years ago

Best vine ever and a winner if you Luke a kick, Best derved with Healy gravy buy if you Can get it — 11 years ago
Pale straw color with a slight green cast. Piercing aromas of petrol and wet slate with slight hints of white flowers and lemon/lime. The palate features ripe red apple, white peach, lemon and lime with a light touch of spicy ginger. A bit of a chalky texture which is well balanced by bracing acidity. A bit of CO2 bubbles in the glass. Long and lingering finish. Great with food. — 8 months ago
This is another blend. But this time it’s Cab, Syrah and Mourvèdre. — 3 years ago

The garnet/purple '12 Shingleback Shiraz 'Red Knot' offers a rich nose of black cherry, plum and earth aromas with secondary hints of spice, tar, licorice and dark cocoa. The medium-bodied mouth is lively with huge jammy blackberry and anise flavors, with subtle oak and smooth tannins. Vibrant long finish. A lot of wine for the money! — 10 years ago
Fin Jams
Had the privilege of being the first non Quinta Do Vale Meao persons to have a try of this wine. Probably one of the best Portuguese dry reds still with lots of ageing potential. Appreciated that they combine tradition and technology. Complex and elegant despite its youth. — 8 months ago
