Uppercut Wine

Domaine Saint Gayan

In Nomine Patris Gigondas Grenache Syrah Blend 2011

Very complex and intense. Nose has deep blackberry, intensely stoney, gravelly minerality, bloody beef, new leather, and some Indian spices. A compact Mike Tyson uppercut to the palate. Deeply fruity but not in a jammy way, with moathcoating minerality, huge body, but a velvety texture. Exceptional. Will get even better over the next 5 years. Was great with mesquite grilled lamb chops.

UPDATE: After two nights under a VacuVin closure, nose still complex and inviting, and on the palate much more clingy, dark, iodiney minerality showing. What a wine!

@Tom Casagrande glad you got to have it after 1-2 nights. It gets so much better. It's really a day 2 wine.

North Coast Sauvignon Blanc 2013

Great deal for a great wine. Happy middle between extremes of dry and sweet yet gives your palate a hint of many great flavors from both sides of the scale. — 9 years ago

Anthony Road/Fox Run/Red Newt

Tierce Dry Riesling 2012

The edge of the knife. Flint and plastic uppercut on the nose. Acid-mania. A lean-ness that you wouldn't expect in the new world and the kind of sharp attack that wine geeks go nuts for. Fun. — 9 years ago
