The nose flexes it's minerality muscles right away, while also bringing white cherry, white peach, unripe strawberries still on the vine, and white pepper. Doesn't quite prepare you for the unruly palate. A spice bomb, layered with white/unripe fruits and M+ finish of acidity. A wolf in sheeps clothing. — 9 years ago

I often think of Carignan as the punk rock varietal: unruly & prolific when young, but when old vine Carignan is carefully tended (and these farmers mispronounce it as Kerrigan, hence the funny name) it gains incomparable depths but is still unruly, sauvage, and profound (think Lou Reed...) — 10 years ago
