This was at my uncle's house in Nicaragua. I never knew South America had Syrah. 2120 cases made. 2011. The cork was so tight I almost injured myself. What a delight and escape from the widespread deployment of malbec.
The nose on this shocked me dark cherries with licorice. This follows in the mouth. Nice roundness with a slight acidic finish (note that I didn't decant). Excellent.

Smooth and cheap. Good wine! — 7 years ago
brilliant ruby-red in color, characterized by a very fine, distinctive varietal aroma. smooth and well-balanced in the palate, with herbal notes typical of the grape married to delicious, plump fruit richness. subtle, persistent finish. — 8 years ago
This was an interesting bottle to say the least. Nose opened with a blast of green pepper and herbaceous undertones very slight hints of black fruit buried deep underneath. The palette showed a little fruit but ultimately reinforced the nose. Medium weighted with some tannin hanging in. Deep in color with no bricking and no dusty or tired aroma, this has held up very well to its age and still has quite a bit of longevity. With more time in the glass a more leaden mineral character and savoury gamey note emerged on the bouquet a little chocolate there as well. Felt very Bordeaux in style. Over all the palette fell just a little short of the promise on the nose but a very surprising showing for something that I'd thought was well past its prime. Excellent — 8 years ago

This wine was #88 on Wine Spectators top 100 of 2015. Koyle Family dates back to wine making started by Mr. Francisco Undurraga Vicuña in 1885. The Koyle Vineyards were started in 2006. Dark Ruby with aromas of black fruit with cedar and herbs. On the palate the wine displays sweet cherry and blackberry flavors, some pepper spice with lively acidity and fine tannins. The wine needed decanting to enjoy. The finish ended with cacao notes, about medium. Needs some more time in the bottle. — 8 years ago

Youthful and vibrant. Fresh black currant, mint, gravelly earthy notes, quite Margaux/Graves like. Smoky cedar, tobacco and dust. Medium bodied, with grainy tannin, good vibrant acid. Quite elegant for Chile! — 9 years ago
