Umber

Château Musar

Bekaa Valley Red Blend 2005

Cherries, dates and an aged color that nicely straddles dark cherry and burnt umber. This is probably not as good as the 2002 vintage I had a few days ago, but it's still kick ass. — 9 years ago

The Balvenie Distillery

Port Wood 21 Years Malt

Burnt umber color. Rich, dried red fruits, cherry liquor, honey, spice, and port aromas. Nutmeg, honeycomb, dark chocolate, walnut, and figs on the palate. Long, syrupy finish. — 9 years ago

Terreno

Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 1997

Starting to show its age. Drink now. Losing fruit but still holding up. If burnt umber were a flavor, this would be it. — 10 years ago

Suntory

The Yamazaki Sherry Cask Single Malt Whisky 2016

The most beautiful burnt umber in color. Delicious red fruits, pomegranate, cream sherry, sweet honey, clove, vanilla bean, dried figs, fruit cake, lavender, cigar smoke, and sandalwood. Unctuous mouthfeel, syrupy in the mouth. Hot but balanced. Palate echoes the above but takes everything to the next level. Additional notes of raisins and dried plums round out the finish. Insanely complex, with mind blowing depth. I literally had the last pour from this bar's only allocated bottle! What an experience! — 10 years ago
