This is on the chocolate side on the palate rather than on the fruit side, although the nose has plenty of violets. Often overlooked besides the much praised 1994 vintage, this is just a killer VP with a massive tight core and an excellent bottle. Much less advanced than 1994's I had in the past 5 years so no hurry here if you have well stored bottles. — 2 years ago
Quite full of Jimmy complex flovours and at first sugar sweet but later balanced. — 4 years ago
One of my favorites! — 5 years ago
Not overly sweet and cloying, very distinct flavors light on the golden raisins and tobacco. More nuanced with black pepper and spices. Good flavors of spiced dry grape, very lovely. — 5 years ago
Lots of ripe raspberry and cherry with a hint of saddle on the nose, and quite powerful. Nice black cherry color. Medium tannins with a fruit explosion in the mouth. Again, raspberry and cherry. Long finish. — 6 years ago
Very well balanced with a good forward representation of Touriga Nacional. — 7 years ago

A top 100 winery in 2015, Quinta Do Vallado is one of the best in the Douro region without the typical High price tag. A dark crimson color, beautiful aromas of wild fruits, a little violet florals and perfect amount of spice. So elegant, fruity and round. A perfect balance with silky tannins, and a nice long finish. Excellent for the holidays. — 8 years ago
2016 vintage. Dirk Niepoort's answer to Burgundy and it actually has a Pinot Noir like colour and mouthfeel. This is a very unusual Douro from very old vines. Delicate nose with sour cherries , pomegranate and flowers. It is all about finesse and subtlety. Very long. Delicious and expensive (80 euros), but if you see the prices of Portuguese high end wines these days it almost seems a bargain. — a year ago
This wine throws parties that go late but not too late full of characters but polite ones and also invites you to dinners with other intellectuals that go late and are rich but get deep and down to life on earth. Which is to say it hints at decadence but is cool with just having like, a real deep conversation on literature. Full of blackberry and cassis fruit but with baking spices and something that says mud delicious mud. Vibing with tannins that aren’t knitted in and a certain element that satisfies but leaves you unsatisfied so you take another sip and it may be on purpose to remind you you are mortal. — 3 years ago
Legs have bits of fruit in them, but 9/10. Oaky, nutty, caramel taste. Very oaky taste, nutty on the tongue. Not my fave but a good port. — 5 years ago
The smell is not that enticing, like cheap store brand soy sauce that has been sitting in a dank basement. Thankfully the taste is better, if not all that complex. Fresh with ripe red berries, a hint of grape skin, and cocoa powder. Would be great with a slice of chocolate cake. — 6 years ago
Was lucky to still find this value from an amazing vintage in the Douro. It really benefited from being open for a few hours.
The wine is perfectly balanced bringing rich dark fruit flavors, mineral notes and just the right amount of oak. — 6 years ago
Fruity and maple syrup mixed together in an explosion of delight! Smooth and bold all at once, rich and powerful. — 8 years ago
Barely ready to drink. Beautiful Vintage Port. Richly flavored not terribly sweet. Medium bodied. Lots of depth. — 9 years ago
It is interesting to note that Neipoort crafts primarily Port wines, so this dry red table wine that is a field blend from 70+ year-old vines is intriguing. The nose is almost Port-like with deep perfumy notes of plums, sultana, roasted black cherry, expresso and liqueur and spice…leaning toward, cardamom and white pepper. Silky on entry, yet totally gutsy and dry, with a core of fruit wrapped in refined tannins and moderate acidity. Dried apricot on the finish. — 9 years ago
Delicious. Cherry nose with hint of pineapple and tobacco. Fantastic structure acid with very subtle smooth tannins. 2 bottles left of this vintage drink over next 2-3 years — 2 years ago
I’m not a pro on Port so I really don’t know how to rate this. My mom was from England and when I tasted a Port with her many years ago I didn’t like it. However, now that I have a little experience with wine, tonight my brother brought this wine over and I feel like it’s sweet on the palate but the ABV is so high that I just can’t enjoy it. 🤷♀️ definitely a sipping wine and would consider this more of a dessert wine. — 2 years ago
Drinking nicely right now, good complexity, still has many years of life yet. — 4 years ago
Interesting balance. Fantastic flavor, that classic tawny caramel and nuts. But quite a bit of alcohol on the finish. Trade offs... — 5 years ago
Had a bit more bite to it than the standard Ruby or Tawny versions. Also had some subtle notes of dark chocolate. — 6 years ago
This can hold its own against wines 2-3x the price. Get yourself a case of this! — 6 years ago
Last bottle of the case. Wish I was more collector than a drinker-- sometimes. — 7 years ago
Ruby color with purple hue on the rim. Ripe dark fruit, raisins, leather, plums, dried dates, and white pepper spice. Taste of round sweetness, dried fruit note, like dates, spice, oaky, no edge, smooth and tasty, a bit salty bacons, and well balanced content with mellow tannins. Aftertaste of white pepper spice, fruity, grapefruit zest, and some dark chocolate. Enjoy it now. — 8 years ago
Another great wine from the Douro region of Portugal — 9 years ago
Fruits from the highest part of the Douro, an elegant wine - this sub region is the hottest, driest and stretches to the Spanish border, it produces some of the finest wines from the region — 10 years ago

I'm not usually a huge fan of Port, but give me this after a nice meal. Significantly different than the 10 year. Caramel. Smokey. Honey Nut Cheerios. — a year ago
