Ten Acre

Jenkins Vineyard Pinot Noir 2013

John W
9.4

Dark ruby coloration. Some translucency- classic Pinot appearance. On the nose, cherry, dark berry, plum, forest floor, earth, and minerals. On the palate, cherry, plum, dark berry, cola, fruit forward. Jammy. Nice medium to full body with velvety mouthfeel. Nicely balanced tannins and longish finish. — 2 years ago

Château Montrose

Saint-Estèphe Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2014

We think something has changed at Montrose after the departure of Jean Bernard Delmas. Its not a bad wine by any means but the style is modern and extracted. At ten years this ie very drinkable and great quality but does not speak to its terroir as it used to. Hope its just one year… — 9 months ago

The most recent vintage of Montrose I’ve had was the 2000 vintage but I’ve have enough experience with the estate going back to vintages in the 1960’s. If it has changed, that’s borderline criminal.

We have same experience, pretty much all vintages from 1966 to 2009. This 2014 is a good wine but little resemblance to our experience in so many vintages. We hope its a one off, but we dont really know. To your point if they changed, well its criminal indeed...

Château Mouton Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

Served blind alongside what was eventually revealed to be the 1971 Mouton Rothschild. This almost had me leaning Napa by a classic producer due to the gorgeous fruit and generous, scratch that, lavish use of new French oak. After careful deliberation with those at the table with more experience drinking Mouton both young and old, I was able to come alongside the others that this was indeed young Pauillac. All the cassis, cigar box, tobacco and baking spices ones heart could desire with some of the loveliest acid. Speaking of, the structure still has quite a grasp of this one but with all the lovely fruit, everything is in brilliant balance, even at 18 years young. Given that, I expect this wine to drink well for decades to come, particularly since secondary characteristics have hardly entered the chat. Definitely a wine I hope to enjoy many more times over the years but so grateful I got to try now. — 3 years ago

Château Palmer

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

Relatively open ten years on. Nice early development with a lil’ stink and some heat from alcohol. Maybe better in 2035 than 2045. 🤷🏼‍♂️ — 3 months ago

Domaine de Chevalier

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

2014 vintage. Tasted six times in the last 3.5 years. Mostly a mix of 9.3-9.4 scores with most of the experiences decanted. This time, decanted as well, with the wine in a slight state of transition. Medium-heavy bod with appropriate sed. Great nose and frontal/mid palates, Slightly disjointed on the finish with different flavors working against each other vs together. Tasted after 30 mins and one hour open and thinking a bit more time could have helped. 8.21.24. — a year ago
