This totally encapsulates my feelings today, my sadness over the loss of a great icon. Tobacco, darkness, rough and tumble weathered psyche. This wine brings you that much closer to feeling that death spiral, though you realize your biological levity will intervene. Others aren’t so lucky. This wine is a toast to someone who could not conquer darkness himself, but nurtured his inner darkness to bend the rest of us toward the light. Top Winery in SA which has probably the oldest chardonnay plots in Hemel en Aarde Valley. They only make 2 wines (a cab s and this chardonnay) but they both are top notch. Lots of finesse and complexity - one of the top 5 Chardonnays from SA for me. — 8 years ago

Very interesting to taste this pitted against the Sandhi Pinot posted just previously. Similar in so many ways yet so different! Foraged strawberries, earth, rosewater. Tannins with a light grip like a partner lightly squeezing your palm during a horror film even though they claimed to be fearless. Bright, restless acidity. Smart and worldly. Alighting upon this particular Riesling, I felt excited, like a recovering alcoholic, heart aflutter, throwing away a 10 year chip for that nostalgic something special dreamed of for oh so very many restless nights.
Probably the most indelible white wine that I came upon while visiting winemakers and their vineyards in Germany, my splendorous import, emblazoned with the only recently permitted designation of the enigma that is "Feinherb", showed all of the orotund fruit notes of a late harvest selection from old vines, but with the complementing tilt of a dry, breezy and crisp attack of herbs, citrus, apple and the whip-crack of an undead acidity. — 8 years ago
