One of the best bottles of domestic Syrah I’ve had in some time. Beautiful savory peppery quality. Bright and everything I love about Syrah. Would love to compare this next to Alain Graillot and may do so next round. — 8 years ago
4th wine this week from Clos de Grillons! We are on a roll here as this producer reminds me of L’Anglore style wines or Alain Graillot style wines depending on the cuvée. 100% Syrah which tasted similar to Graillot’s bottling. Intense black fruit but not heavy on the palate. — 7 years ago
Alain Graillot I love you and all your projects! — 8 years ago
Graillots Australian Syrah. Not your normal Heathcote blockbuster. More restrained and the better for it. This example a little cold (mid July in Toowoomba!!) but showing more Northern Rhone nuances. Hints of liquorice spice and game. Excellent. 17.5+. — 11 years ago
Red cherry, blackberry, blurberry on the nose with immediate earthy and spices. Didn’t pick floral aromas. Beautiful on the palate with tartness followed by mid-palate tannins and long finish with earth, bacon, leather, thyme, rosemary and peppery finish. This was fun! Well balanced and serious wine. Decanted for 2.5 hrs and it was still opening up in the glass. — 5 years ago
Alain Graillot does great work in Priorat! — 13 years ago
Martinez
Clos Figueres’ flagship wine, made with Garnacha (60%) and Cariñena/Carignan (40%) from the estate’s oldest vines (80+ years old). Since 2009, winemaking is overseen by legendary Rhone vigneron and Syrah guru Alain Graillot (previous vintages included varying amounts of Syrah). Aged in French oak barrels for 14 months. Intense nose with aromas of dark fruit, prunes, smoky notes and Priorat’s classic mineral character. Full-bodied, smooth tannins. Balanced — 4 years ago
