Tasted semi-blind and wrote down the same thing I did for the 2018: it smells like church! I’m trying to figure out why I wrote it, but the minerality is similar to what you smell when you enter an old white marble church. Maybe some of the florals too?

A massive departure from the Tenuta della Terre Nere Rosso that we started the evening with. Loads of dark cherry, brambles, and spiced meat. The aromas were wild. I was also picking up some volatile acidity but it really helped give some lift the massive amount of fruit. On the palate, more dark fruits, spices and dried herbs. Lip smacking finish. Terre Nere Campigli Vallone Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2018: Medium bodied. Perfect balance between tannins & acidity. Fruity youthful taste. Bright fresh notes of red fruits; additional tobacco, herbs & spice. Dry soft finish. Overall, high QPR for this Montalcino Sangiovese; a great vintage even though it’s a younger & lighter Rosso but it can easily compete with more expensive Brunellos! Highly recommend.
