LONGING FOR THE SOUTH
Yesterday I drank this very nice Macedonian semi-dry T'ga za Jug red wine.
The wine is made of the native grape variety Vranec. It has an intense red color, and the distinctive taste of raisins and raspberries, which make it a nice sweet treat (hence: semi-dry).
The wine is named after the poem ‘Taga za Yug’ of the Bulgarian poet Konstantin Miladinov (1830–1862), one of the Miladinov brothers, who originate from Ottoman Macedonia. Both brothers are thought to have laid the foundation of the Macedonian literary tradition.
‘Taga za Yug’ means ‘longing for the South’ (el anhelo por el Sur): "If I had an eagle's wings, I would rise and fly on them to our shores, to our own parts [...] Here are frost and snow and ashes, blizzards and harsh winds abound [...] There the sunrise warms the soul".
When it is cold outside, and fiercely raining, I can assure you that it makes you long for the sun that warms the soul. Drinking the T'ga za Jug wine in good company and nice surroundings makes for a wonderful or sometimes even better alternative.

My Colorado River drink at sunset & sunrise 😉 — 8 years ago
Maroon to burgundy with a deeper burgundy rim, spin it around and dampened earth and last night's smoldering fire hits but mellows to spice interestingly accenting camomile and a way far-off Play-Doh fantasy then back to the smoldering ember blueberries and strawberries unctuously coating, clinging front to back, then the tannins squeeze the acid and fruit just enough to slow the flow for a lazy decent into a skinny-dipping swim, swirl and, hell yes, another swig, which at a mere 12% I want to dance all night! Don't know about you, but I plan to snag a couple of cases of this seductive stuff with the sunrise. For now, "a glass of red and the sunset..." — 8 years ago

I love this Australian screw top. Honey and fruit leather with a lacroix. Very taste fresh and deep stoned summer sunset or maybe a sunrise when you’re Tripping — 6 years ago
A juicy sophisticated expression of the gamay grape. The nose is hot with dark fruits & blackberry jam. Prunes, anise and white pepper palate with a bold acidity on the finish. — 7 years ago
Apparently they needed shelf space for the 37th version of Ménage à Trois, Sunrise, a breakfast white.
Black fruit with a tinge of stone fruit, oak-driven vanilla, dark chocolate and an edge of mint. Not inspiring, but classic, nonetheless.

As with the other Forge Rieslings I've tried, the 2014 Sunrise Hill Vineyard is lithe and electric. it possesses tactile, nervy tension. The nose is somewhat reserved, though swirling reveals white flowers, lime zest, mint and a pinch of granulated honey. It feels very pure—at the core, it's bracing, slightly monotone and accented by lemon pith, and Asian pear that slowly, ever so slowly, dwindles to a slightly chalky finish. Nice with fried oysters. 12.5% ABV | Sample — 8 years ago

When Maggie Harrison tells you to chill out, you listen. Even better when she gives you a bottle to do it with. 6:45am watching the sunrise. Perfect mind cleanser. — 9 years ago
