A big expensive Swiss wine, marketed as the best wine out of Valais, the most popular AOC in Switzerland. Price (approx 190$) is excessive for the wine though it is a good wine. At this price tag there are far better wines from more renown wine regions. This blend of 7 varieties is interesting, the color is deep black, the nose has notes of orange peals, red berries, red current, spices and cherries, full body rich with firm tannins, complex and interesting with a long finished. My score 89, drink to 2025 — 10 years ago

I managed to shock an entire panel of very classical sommeliers with this Chilean oddity. A exuberantly aromatic, super cloudy, unfiltered, slightly fizzy blend of Muscat de Alexandria, Torontel and "Corinto" (local name for Chasselas). Like it or not winemaker Manuel Moraga (from a veritable wine dynasty) is delivering the traditional/real/old style Chileans. This is the type of wine that my grandfather, renowned local drunk, had with friends and family, particularly during our national holidays in September when the country goes into a drunken stupor. Forget Carmenères, Almavivas and Chadwicks I'm sorry. If you really want to go local while in Chile you got to try Itata, Yumbel, Guarilihue. That's where you'll find our true soul. BTW I got this one in NYC while shopping around Union Sq, how's that for contradiction!

I drank. at night. And in the morning I had arrived in heaven still in a stupor after the nights drinking in a ponder at how I'd arrived in heaven by following , head down , eyes drawn tight, lead along by all the empty and tossed Pinot noir bottles lining the path like guide posts left by others also on their way aloft to heaven which turns out to be through the gate of the cellar door shown above. — 10 years ago

Pretty deep ruby /garnet core , lightening though not a lot at the edges , very big thick slow legs. Certainly secondary aromas now, ceder , licorice , blackcurrant with a meaty undertone , quite interesting and complex . In the mouth more of the blackcurrant fruit, minty notes also , then the tannins kick in. They are ripe but omnipresent , almost a cocoa powder finish with the drying tannins. The mid palate is slightly hollow and lacks a bit of charm. This is a big wine though the acidity is balancing I'm not sure those tannins will ever be resolved. It doesn't come as 'new world' you would think it could be a left bank Bordeaux , a St Estephe perhaps, though the sweeter tannins and slightly alcoholic kick give away another origin. Coming back to this , I think there will probably be limited upside , the wine appear too hollow to really improve. So drink now and over the next 3 years . — 8 years ago
