This wine‽ Smells like what you thought high-school-autumn would taste like in junior high. Tastes like a damn good adult vacay to say...I dunno autumn leaves in Vermont? I’ve never done that but if I’m ever allowed to leave LA again (“Safer at Home” mandates staying in place so I dream). Essentially this is your perfect Cali Pinot. If called to make a J Vineyards fave call? Well I would need to taste this beside the Strata bottling (in my Taco Bell pairing column) but gosh it’s good. — 6 years ago

Stony-steely yesterday, a little patience reveals a lady of considerable refinement, with lemon softness coming to the fore. The truncated and almost wholly muted boa became expansive with pansy and peonies, the minerality gaining strata, and pairing with a range of flavors. Semillon-esque but with a 10 foot backbone. Only 300 btls produced? Wondering if that is accurate, but no matter. This was a beautiful wine! Everything one cod want in a bottle. Seductive dark blueberry fruits without all the sugar, a mineral and earth strata to tone it down, judicious oak to frame it all. Fine art! Really delicious, and the tannins were exquisitely integrated. A menagerie of amuse bouches from soft smoke, to crisp plum, black cherry, to forrest scrub, black olive, roasted currant, truffle, etc. Will drink this again! — 11 years ago
