Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Dark luscious ripe dark cherries, plums, blackberry, followed anise, crackling black pepper and hints of smoke. It’s somewhat unstructured with the flavours mixed throughout, yet remains outstanding. Served with squid stuffed with chorizo and steelhead trout. — 5 years ago
Drank alongside the “Les Porcheronnes”. Brought from my cellar. This was more about pears and green apples than the stone fruits of Porcheronnes. Lovely minerals and acidity. A touch rounder than the aforementioned. Killer with the fare of steelhead trout and potatoes. — 5 years ago
This was elegantly rich with bright fruit notes and a smooth finish. Loved it with Steelhead grilled on the smoker, wild mushroom risotto and sautéed broccolini- perfect pairing, particularly for the earthy mushroom flavor. — 7 years ago
I live on the edge of ABC (All But Chardonnay, except Chablis and unoaked Chardonnay, that is), until this lovely 2014 Stoller Family Estate Reserve Chardonnay (sample, $35). Holy deliciousness, Batman! The 11 months in French oak add a beautiful texture and backbone to a citrus- and tree-fruit driven wonder on the palate. I'm especially drawn to the lime finish. If only all oaked Chardonnays could be like this one. The pairing: Baked Steelhead trout. — 8 years ago
2014. Excellent. Christmas Eve eve with a side of smoked steelhead (my first one). — 4 years ago
Dark color of bruised plums or uncooked steaks. I like the smell. Kinda of fleshy and deep. Fruits with ‘winey’ stuff, like must while the wine is fermenting. The wine in the mouth is lovely. Slightly smoky. Peppery. Bitter and licorice-y. It’s an example of what CA could do with the French blending style in an affordable red. Also promotes and works for trout habitat so that’s bonus points. — 5 years ago
After I noticed this was on the list at Monarch, I couldn’t resist ordering this bottle to taste alongside the “Les Champs de Cri” of the same vintage. Strangely different packaging...not sure what explains that to be honest. This was more about stone fruits. One of our friends at the table said that the smell reminded him of the best basement smell he could imagine. Minerals and acid in balance with the fruit. Again, a wonderful accompaniment to the steelhead. — 5 years ago
Very fruity sparkling red. Extremely unique flavor. Paired very well with maple Dijon steelhead — 6 years ago
Apples and pears, with touches of flowers, honey, and even a little hint of grapefruit. Acidity is very well balanced with both crisp and soft notes. Nice gravely minerality. Very nice wine. I had it with roasted steelhead, potatoes with leeks, and Mediterranean vegetables. — 7 years ago
Nothing better than a well aged Chardonnay and fatty, cold water fish. This bottle is our go to pairing for grilled steelhead trout.
Nose is evolving since my prior post, oxidized green apple peel and cold caramel.
Palate is lightly sweet lemon curd/custard, baked red apple, cooked lemon, warm granite dust and a zing of acidity on the close.
Our feline house managers pestered for comfortable portions on the trout, they are good boys and girls, generally, so we endulge.
Great night listening to Hugh Masekela and Mongo Santamaria on the HiFi, everything complimented!
One bottle left, then we move along to the next vintage. — 5 years ago
Excellent mellow red. Had it at Bonefish with the Steelhead. — 7 years ago
If this ain't my favorite Syrah (that I've had), it's pretty damned close. Beautiful, brambly, floral, peppery awesomeness. Perfectly textured and structured. Grizzly elegance. Kind of a Côte Rôgue-tie. Love this wine. — 7 years ago

Roero Arneis. Apple pear juice. Honey. Soft texture. Delicious with steelhead trout. — 4 years ago
