Bright, translucent, fruit forward yet with the unmistakable Ahr light touch.
Bright, crunchy cherry with some darker accents, herby undergrowth, a touch of anise & orange zest, a whiff of milk chocolate. Highly inviting.
Fresh, sappy, pure and with great flow on the palate. Crunchy tannins, very juicy cherry acidity, and uplifting mineral finish.
Nothing overly complex or profound yet so delicious. Beats most Villages Bourgognes, at a fraction of the price.

What is this? A Gevrey-Chambertin in Phalz, crazy? Dark cherries, light stemmy notes on nose and palate, spicy minerals, wow! Needs at least a few hours of decanting and it's totally alive, very clean finish, great acidity. I should have bought more... — 6 years ago

Reminiscent of good quality Chambolle with a touch more flesh and pliancy. This is stupid good for the price, when I’m old I’ll be bitching about how cheap this was back in the day. High toned, crunchy, deeply earthy and loaded with ripe red/black fruit. The finesse is there. Black cherry, wild strawberry, rhubarb compote, black tea, wildflowers, wet leaves, undergrowth, spice. Again, the elegance coupled with the perfume and harmony this carries really delivers. — 5 years ago
Messmer Spatburgunder (Pinot Noir) Rosé Brut Sent 2010 Rose of Pinot Noir done Champagne-style. All the fruitiness of Pinot Noir along with the yeasty, spicy, woodland picnic of the time in the barrel. Plus bubbles! Really delicious! A favorite. — 7 years ago

What a rare pleasure enjoying a pn at this level at this price. Fruity, sweet, generous, deep, balanced... Love this wine... — 10 years ago
Reasonably light garnet , wide watery garnet rim . Quite light nose , cranberry , red currant , herbal touches , touch of spice , rosewater . On the palate quite sweet light red fruits , with light rounded ripe tannin . Quite fresh acidity , and ok finish . This is now resolved drink now and over the next couple of years — 6 months ago
Wow. What a decidedly gorgeous wine. Distinctive mineral and fruit complexity. Right up my alley @Lyle Fass — 2 years ago
Hits you with citrus, orange, lemon, dry, very little pigment, yet complex. A great surprise!! — 5 years ago
This is 16 despite the label. Awesome nose. Big cherry fruit, some sweet oak, mint, soil tones, and just an amalgam of intense fruit. Really elegant and juicy with lithe silky tannins and such purity. Terrific structure and top notch finesse. Amazing purity and elegance. Long finish and very chewy. I think needs 3-4 years and/or a 3 hour decant. Terrific focus and freshness. Stunning balance. Awesome. Lovely stuff. — 5 years ago
Med pink w/a slight purple hue. Strawberry nose fresh fruit - great showing for its age. Great balance. Complex but elegant. Delicious — 6 years ago
I've hit the last 4 out of 5 weekly wine committees and it has been a treat every time. This week, @Jeff Meyer hosted and schooled everyone on how good German wines can be!
My favorite red of the day. Mimicked #1 in that I got a lot of new world/RRV characteristics to it. Cedar, cola, Bing cherry notes. Thought possibly Oregon. Very Burgundian, but with a more fruit forward palate. Excellent. — 7 years ago
Great, focused Spätburgunder rosé from the Nahe. Another solid effort from Schäfer-Frölich. Appears there's barely any skin contact; pours a very pale, bright, almost silver-y copper color. Lean 'n' mean. A bit reductive at first; splash it into a decanter a bit before serving and it'll help it blow off though. On the nose, a pile of wet, crushed stone, cranberries, slightly underripe watermelon, a slight herbaceousness and a bit of lager-y lees character. The palate is pretty congruent in term of flavor to the aromatic character, with bright, high acid and just a touch of RS to help round it off and add a little extra oomph to the fruit character. Light, lean body. Incredibly food-friendly wine. Nice companion in this 95 degree heat. — 7 years ago

VERY Cherry, the nose is also floral, slightly resinous. It has that lovely damp tree bark thing going on. Autumn on display.
Even after 1/2 hr. Out, it’s quite acidic up front( disclaimer: mouth has been up/down post Covid) lovely minerals and soil.
Worth further investigation. I might hold a couple years, but pleasure is now.
