This & the 2013 Moavani Syrah were my favorite 2013’s from Bevan, the only ones I re ordered.
Two Dogs Knoll is beneath Harlan & next to Martha’s.
Parkers review (96) says almost a split between Petit Verdot & Cabernet, but not the case.
According to Russel’s tasting video its about 90% Petit Verdot from Two Dogs & the rest is Sugar Loaf Merlot. Fantastic juice, if you can find it for $225.00 or less buy it — 8 years ago
Black Friday Thanksgiving redux, with relatives, mothers-in-law, various dogs and multitudinous small children. Will the ice cream freeze? Will turkey cook? Will everyone have a fun time? No worries, the Chardonnay will keep the uncles happy for another half hour. Cuz it's awesome, not buttery, not so sweet. Good stuff. Trader Joe's. — 8 years ago

Nice wine that is going to take 8 years in bottle to integrate the fruits and minerality. The dark & mid red fruits show nicely but it still has astringent flavors and mineral bite. Photos of; their tasting room, outside fountain and Napa bud break, just not vine bud break. — 8 years ago
This wine is a stand alone gem. Very difficult to read and closed and may be too light and disappointing right now but that is deceiving. I am collecting these wines and they are ridiculously good with age. Currently available only from Crush or Chambers or Winfield Flynn in New York. I also tasted the 2015 in barrel 3 weeks ago which in the barrel is a flat out 10. The 2014 is chalky and herbaceous very subdued. The power and elegance of this wine is hidden right now almost like a sleeping giant. — 9 years ago

Zibbibo to the face. Beautifully floral (honey, dandelion) and tremendously dry. Very similar profile to gewurztraminer, but a way better dogs' name. — 10 years ago

We are huge fans of this vintage and huge fans of this glorious #wine--but be patient--it's a sleeping giant that needs at least another 3 years bottle age plus decanting! #GermanWineSociety — 11 years ago

During the month of January, the Wednesday Wine Committee has a unique format...the sparkler, whites and dessert wines can be from any vintage and any location, but the reds must be from the 2007 vintage. It was my first time providing a wine for a lunch, so I was excited to see how it showed. As always, all wines were served blind.
This was a treat for me to be able to serve. Tom Farella only produces this Alta bottle in special years. The ‘07 was his last one before he brought it back in ‘14. Cabernet dominated blend complimented by a bit of merlot from the famed Farella vineyard. Supremely balanced. Raspberries, plums and blackberries on the nose and palate, but the finish was plush. This is about at its peak and will stay here for another 3 or so years. Oak was almost fully integrated. Very happy to have two of these still sleeping. This was the group’s consensus “wine of the day”. — 8 years ago

It took five hours to decant but boy was it good after a double decant. Super well integrated, polished tannins. This wine is definitely sleeping right now. Tannins, bouquet, acids kept coming in and out. — 9 years ago
Always love this wine. This vintage seems more fruit forward than other vintages with a lot of apple flavor. — 10 years ago

Back in 2006, I had the good fortune to invest in a box of the Neal vineyard designated bottlings pre-release. They have been sleeping in my cellar ever since. Last night, Tony the Fish, who is a frequent contributor to these pages, arrived with a bottle of the 2010 Neal cab sav. It was a solid effort and Mrs Fish quite enjoyed it. As we finished the bottle I remembered I had some of the 2003 vineyard designated wines in the back of the cellar and figured it was time to check in on them. We started with the Second Chance from Atlas Peak. Generally I am a mountain fruit guy, and like the volcanic soil that yields low yielding structured wines. There was plenty of stuffing left after 11 years, and a nice contrast to the 2010 cab sav blend. We then moved to Chafen. Another mountain- Howell this time, slightly lower elevation vineyard. This wine was bigger than the Second Chance with mouthfuls of ripe cassis, berry fruit and coffee- almost a cocoa powder character to it. The final wine of the night - and best of show - was the Howell Mountain Estate. Dark rich tannins with intense velvety chocolate cake flavors. This was a fun night going from the 2010 blend to the all 2003 single vineyard designates. Most of us aren't patient enough or buy them as a group so you can taste them altogether at once. Everyone should do this from to time. It reminds me at least of how different climate and soil can be in the same year. It's even better with friends. Thank you Mr Fish for the inspiration. — 11 years ago

It’s actually their white. Delectable sleeping on the French wines big time. A lil strange and interesting. High alcohol but balanced with nice acidity and minerality. — 6 years ago
