Estate Syrah, decant before pouring. Opens easily. Lots of black fruit notes on the front end, structured but not grippy mid palate, very balanced acidity, long easy finish, no heat for a big Syrah. Great wine. — 9 years ago

Great job John Skinner, fab black fruits, nice acidity, excellent overall. Wonderful with roast lamb! — 10 years ago
I felt incredibly lucky to have tasted this bottle with Betz assistant winemaker, Louis Skinner, who is both talented and, as I learned, something of a wine collector himself. The 2012 La Serenne is fabulous, with a nose that reminds me of blackberries macerated in fresh thyme, crème brûlée and cedar. The innate sweetness at the core of this stylish Syrah is offset by ripe tannins, a fine mineral-acid backbone, and more serious notes of game, black olive, iron, iodine, and loamy soil. 14.3% ABV | Sample — 9 years ago

The final wine in a trio of Betz wines tasted with assistant winemaker Louis Skinner, the Pére De Famille Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 is seamless and well-crafted. The nose is a gathering storm of blackcurrant, blueberries, milk chocolate, and violets. Structured and spectacularly dense in the mouth with saturating, tooth-staining layers of black and blue fruit, a touch of Welches grape jelly, anise, and sweet tobacco. This finish is lengthy, velvety, wonderful. 14.5% ABV | Sample — 9 years ago
