From magnum and paired well with three different Tri-tip steaks sources and marinades.
On the nose, sweet & sour, ripe dark cherries, cherries, blackberries, strawberries, some ripe, slightly rustic rhubarb with just a hint of blue fruits. Glycerin, touch of fruit liqueur, vanilla, dry stones, crushed rocks, hints of dry herbs, used leather, saddle-wood, dark rich soils, soft dark spice, underlying white pepper and dark red fresh and slightly withering florals with a touch of violets.
The palate is med and beautiful. The length, structure, tension and balance are at its peak harmony from magnum. Sweet & sour, ripe dark cherries, cherries, blackberries, strawberries, pomegranate, some ripe, slightly rustic rhubarb, burnt orange, with just a hint of blue fruits. Glycerin, touch of fruit liqueur, vanilla, dry river stones, crushed rocks, hints of dry herbs, used leather, saddle-wood, dark rich soils, limestone minerals, dry stems, more presence, soft dark spice, underlying white pepper and dark red fresh and slightly withering florals with a touch of violets and blue flowers. The acidity is waterfall perfect. The rich, ripe, fresh fruit, well balanced finish is simply beauty on steroids.
Photos of, Lopez de Heredia, Vat fermenters that are still in use and somewhere between 100-200 years of age (they repair them as needed to keep them tight), their cooperage and Maria José López de Heredia who now runs the family business. — 7 years ago
simply stunning white Burgundy that could come from nowhere else. Still light green, it is a near perfect Corton Charlemagne with amazing intensity and drive, stunning focus. It's an aristocratic wine, incredibly poised and elegant, with gorgeous lemon fruit, steeliness and a touch of minerals, incredibly long and bringing every taste bud to attention. Really a headspinning wine. Wow. — 9 years ago

Crisp clean and simple — 13 years ago
Simply stunning and still youthful, aromatic and dense. Stunning purity of dark fruits and ditto berries, where pencil shavings, cigar box and fading flowers add nuance and complexity. Medium (+) bodied with great acidity and finely grained tannins, which still needs time to fully integrate with its lovely, lush fruit personality. Still surprisingly youthful, this still needs a few years to fully present itself. Just a gorgeous wine. — 7 years ago
Beautiful wine. Super concentrated even now and a simply delicious wine. As crazy as this sounds i think it is too early to drink. I would love to try this sexy thing in 4 or 5 more years. I love it! — 8 years ago

This is the best wine I've had in a while. It's in such a good place right now. Just the right amount of pyrazines so you know it's cab and everything in harmony. Simply sublime. — 10 years ago

Wow. Wine of the day. After Montrose, Calon Segur, and Cos D'Estournel, this is simply outstanding. — 12 years ago

Truly excellent. What a wine. Great drinking window and wouldn’t mind trying in 3-5 years as well. A 1998 Lignier Clos de la Roche is one of the wines that impacted me the most, and was very excited to try Ponsot. Very pure and precise but quite hedonistic. Incredibly mouth filling with a very, very long finish. Excellent balance and mouthfeel. Simply delicious. — 7 years ago

Simply superb, mature enough today with all the left bank Bordeaux assets: color, refined tannins, earth and berry spirit God Bless! — 9 years ago
Proof that one does NOT have to spend a lot of money to acquire wines that will age gracefully into a beautifully mature wine 36 years of age. The usual pepper note is there that tells you are with a Cabernet Franc from #chinon, but the real beauty unfurls with the elegant spices of tobacco leaf and old leather, notes of forest floor, subtle mint, dried red currant and cassis fruits. Simply beautiful and I will now go buy a case of 2010 and say goodbye to it in storage for at least ten years. $20-25 retail for the recent vintages. #1979 #smashingpumpkins #raffault — 10 years ago
