Amazing wine! — 8 years ago
The more restrained wine from this producer. Has a touch more length and intensity than the Romulus. — 10 years ago

Also had at Swift & Sons in Chicago. The price delta between a younger CDP Beaucastel and the aged 93 Lazaret was minimal and very worth it. Like lavender rolled in clay and then dried over sage. So damn good. Big boozy sappy tannic tar when opened but 30 mins later it came out to play. — 7 years ago
I’ve never evaluated vodka, but it smells like candy corn. And it’s delightful. Especially when tasted against a wheat vodka which just smells like rubbing alcohol. On its own this is a great sipping vodka with a beautiful rich soft mouthfeel — 8 years ago
This past Saturday I attended a get together with close friends. We opened the 2014 Saarloos & Sons Family Tree Rhone Blend. 55% Grenache, 27% Mourvedre and 18% Syrah. This was the hit of the evening that turned heads and got people talking.
The nose was light with cherry, raspberry, plum, cinnamon, black pepper, anise, roses and an earthy gravel.
On the palate was beautiful fruit of black cherry, blackberry, plum, black pepper, anise , clove and a good gravel component.
The wine was soft velvety smooth with a medium mouth feel and medium to plus acidity with medium smooth tannin that leads to a medium long finish. A very enjoyable wine. Almost the weekend please be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 8 years ago
I have opened tonight the 2012 Saarloos & Sons Family Tree, a blend of 40% Grenace Noir, 30% Stray and 30% Mourvedre. Keith Saarloos and family do a wonderful job in making their wines.
On the nose there is blackberry, black cherry, strawberry, plum, vanilla, pepper, floral notes of violet, gravel and sweet oak.
Th palate reveals notes of blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, strawberry, licorice, vanilla, chocolate, white pepper and oak.
This wine has a full soft mouth feel with medium acidity, medium smooth tannins that lead to a medium long finish. An enjoyable wine to have alone or with others. Have a great week this week and please be healthy and safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 9 years ago
Smooth and smokey — 10 years ago
Tasted this and then drank a bottle a few days later and both were quite good. Red berries on the nose with a very silky texture and smooth finish. Was lacking a little depth on the mid palate but I am just nitpicking now. — 10 years ago

Well priced for 12 yr, smooth, medium oak, not peaty, given as a wedding gift. Goes great with nuptials. — 11 years ago

The winner of the Downs Club Premium Red taste off from 41 masked Reds. Not my final choice but democracy prevailed by 4 votes to 3. This was in my final 3. A nice balance of sweet red fruits with some spice and hint of pepper. Balanced and smooth. Will cellar up to 10 years but overall a little too sweet for my palate. Old style. Awesome farmyard complex mushroom nose. Dry spice. Alc and tannin in balance. R85 — 10 years ago
Very nice last two of this vintage but many fond memories with this great blend — 11 years ago
Re-tasted and showing true NZ SB characters- bright and zippy — 11 years ago
Incredibly smooth. Much more peety than smoky, but could still taste the oak. Pleasant. $NA / 91pts Youngs Market — 12 years ago
Dark ruby red to purple. High alc, high tannin, med acid. Typical cab nose and flavor. Strong cassis, blackberry. Some dark chocolate and licorice. Would definitely be better with aging to allow the tannins to soften and balance out. Right now the alc and tannin overpower the rest of the wine. The label says optimum 2025 and I could believe it. — 13 years ago
