A few days late in posting wines from the Wine Thief dinner last weekend. A nice selection of wines, most of which I’d never had before.
My first Andrew Will experience was last month and I enjoyed every red I tasted. Had no clue they had a SB. Local wine shop is offering this up for $15! Normally $30. No brainer. More mineral driven and not as citrus focused. Nice acidity and soft fruit skins. — 8 years ago
This is probably one of THE best $20 Cabs I've ever had. I first had the 2013, which was above average as is, but THIS, is the definition of QPR. (Second label of Sheridan Vineyards)
The nose is very fragrant, exhibiting notes of red delicious apple skins, cedar, sweet balsamic reduction, sod, and french chocolate truffle. The pallet is extremely rich and viscous, but not in a high alcohol fashion. It is full of luscious, dark cherries, stewed blackberries, clove and nutmeg spices, and vanilla bean extract, finishing in a gripping, very slight jam factor.
I think overall this wine is outstanding, whether that is because I am biased to this style of red, or because this wine truly is impressive. It is smooth, round, and rich in complexities, and very expressive of a preferred growing year in good ol' Columbia Valley!

Buy this now! Big but not overwhelming fruit, layered really well for a 100% Syrah. Long finish. Lavender, herbs, spice and black currant. Drank this with a 3lbs trout caught the same day, perfect pairing. — 9 years ago
Mineral, yeasty, grapefruit peel notes on the nose. Wonderful hints of lemon and slight floral flavors on the palate. Very nice — 10 years ago

Sheridan Vineyards from Yakima Valley, WA - Actually came out with a new Napa label, kinda crazy! Producer known for several 93-97 point critiques from Wine Advocate each year and this just sneaks it's way out into the world with its white label that stick out like a sore thumb next to its charcoal labels from Yakima. What doesn't stick out is a difference in style from what I'd expect. Elegant Bordeaux style, focus on characteristics of the fruit and not intrusion of oak and alcohol, and firm integrated tannins. Blackberries, black plum, violet, dark chocolate, leather, and vanillin, clove, dried herbs, gravel dust. Very nice after a good decant, but drinking like most 2013 Napa cabs - intense, sharp, and tight; In need of time still, as 2014 drinks miles ahead in maturity already. This wad fun and interesting... Washington like wine in Napa.. It had a faint reminiscence of Randy Dunn and his low alcohol bold style wines. — 7 years ago
Mystique - a fascinating aura of mystery, awe, and power surrounding someone or something.
I'd say the label holds true. Power trapped in a bottle. Such a dark purple wine. Full of cedar-like aromas, clove, and burnt coffee bean. The pallet was gripping, and rustic, exhibiting notes of under ripe blackberries, raspberries, lavender, black tea, wet hot rocks, and a very everlasting gripping finish. 85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc; definitely needs some age but bravo.
Cheers!

— 7 years ago
Picked up this great PG from David @ Wine Noir in Sheridan for our Springbreak trip to the coast. Wonderful citrus flavor and smooth--so nice to find a small producer right in our backyard. I look forward to visiting this vineyard in Gastonia. Cheers! — 8 years ago
Vanilla extract on the nose. Fresh berry and spices on the palate. — 9 years ago
Very sophisticated red for the price point. Has some rough edges, but with right aeration could fake out a lot of $25 bottles. Great value wine! — 9 years ago
