Intense, concentrated colour, showing bricking on the edges. Nose of rising cake, and caramel, with cherries and violets - crème brûlée, with herbs. Beautifully elegant on the palate, balanced with acidity, tannic structure and fruit. Menthol up front, opens into tannins, and ripe red fruits to finish up with stones and herbs on the palate. — 8 years ago

Charles Baker has swiftly risen to become one of Niagara's foremost authorities on Riesling. Grown from the Vinemount Ridge appellation, that stretches south overlooking the Niagara Escarpment, the 2014 hits all the marks of an outstanding Niagara Riesling - petrol, wet stones, apple skin, and chiseled mineral flavor. Clean, long and precise. — 8 years ago
Tiny orchard apples you can barely bite into, lime zest and peel, fruit stones. Tart on nose and palate but nodding towards ripe. Take the lifted and frozen salt-filled paw of a modern wolf away from the sidewalk and into your own warm paw. Transfer your warmth to it at the cost of smelling like a dog when you had intended to smell like a human baked good. Let it's wagging hips rest on your shins. Feel the hot head of dog fever set in hard. — 8 years ago
A knee-weakening Pinot Noir, Evening Land's Seven Springs 'Anden' comes from fruit harvested in a single pass through a phylloxerated section of historic Seven Springs vineyard. The 2014 is whole cluster fermented and aged in 100% New oak—it would seem that there's a method to winemaker Sashi Moorman's madness in the rather unusual approach to this limited release—and it's spectacular. Raspberries, cranberries, orange peel and pomander ball are followed by crushed stones and a slightly piney note. It's pure and vivid, with an unwavering mineral thread that neatly ties it all together. And despite his liberal use of oak, it reads as a delicate albeit complex wine with beautifully integrated tannins. If you can find this one, and you can afford I say, go for it! 13.5% ABV Sample — 9 years ago

Seven Stone Row 128 Merlot (Similkameen Valley) - Intense fruit and some spice complemented by the right amount of toasty oak. This is a powerful Merlot — 13 years ago
There are few simple life pleasures that are as good as my Ribeye and a well cellared, very good vintage of Pichon Lalande.
One of my favorite New Years Eve traditions is to have an old Pichon Lalande and my Ribeye. This one was close to Heaven.
I come from a mother who raised seven kids on her own as my father passed away five months before I was born. An amazing feat on her part. I say this only to say, if you didn’t eat at rapid pace, you didn’t get your fair share. So, I learned to eat quickly as we all did.
However, this steak and a Pichon Lalande takes over an hour and has lasted two hours on several occasions. One small bite of steak and a small sip of the right Pichon Lalande and my eyes roll as my head dips in complete appreciation and study. This 86 was no exception! Pichon Lalande is simply my favorite steak wine.
The nose on the front end reveals some barnyard but, dissipates as it opens in the glass. Saddle-wood & cedar, forest floor & dark cassis. Ripe & slightly baked; blackberries, dark cherries, mixed dark berry liqueur notes, blueberries, black raspberries, black plum, plum, cherry notes on the glass edges and high nose. Black licorice, limestone minerals, dry stones, dry brush, steeped tea, light herbaceous notes, burnt caramel, vanillin, dark spice with bright red & blue flowers and dark withering florals.
The body is medium full and flat out gorgeous as it tantalites the palate. It’s a slow sipper. The tannins are slightly tarry & well resolved with years ahead. The structure, tension, length and balance have hit full harmony. Dark cassis, ripe & slightly baked; blackberries, dark cherries, mixed dark berry liqueur notes, blueberries, black raspberries, black plum, raspberries, plum and cherry notes on the glass edges and high nose. Black licorice, sweet tarry notes, limestone minerals, dry stones, dry brush, saddle-wood & cedar, forest floor, dark expresso roast, pipe tobacco, soft leather, dry crush rocks, steeped tea, light herbaceous notes, burnt caramel, vanillin, dark spice with bright red & blue flowers and dark withering florals. The acidity is like a waterfall over the palate. The long finish can only be described as ripe, ruby, well balanced Heaven and it is persistent for minutes. Puts on weight with an hour & half plus in the decanter. Tannins also...round, slightly gritty and dusty.
Happy New Year! 🥂🍾🎉🎊🎀🎈

Awesome Gamay from Seven Springs, by way of Evening Land. Has all the great qualities I love about good cru Beaujolais yet doesn't seem like it's trying to be *be*Beaujolais and it certainly reflects its Oregon origins and the warmer vintage with its ripe fruit and (relative) roundness, although that's certainly not to say it's not nimble and doesn't have great acid structure too because it is, and it does. Lithe, elegant, juicy, and supremely drinkable. Concentrated nose of ripe wild raspberries and red cherries, fresh rose and violet floral tones, mossy riverbank stones, and white pepper. Palate is echoes the nose pretty identically in terms of flavor. Medium (+) acid. Medium (-) body with lovely soft texture and a small amount of superfine tannin to help give a bit of extra structure. — 9 years ago
Really enjoyed this. Very smooth blend of seven varietals. Surprisingly strong 13.4%. Pairs pretty well with my squash, romano beans and BBQ vegetables. — 9 years ago

Tawse is one of Canada’s best wineries, bringing a Burgundian ethos to their site-specific wines. This Chardonnay is lean and mean - tart lime zest meets wet stones. A fascinating juxtaposition with the richness of the creamy Laliberté cheese. #i4c18 — 8 years ago
15 barrels of classic Cabernet seven year old grown on black Sage Road and Oliver meets the smooth and Rich Merlot from a Vineyard in Osoyoos. A tribute to the Bordeaux wines of France, with rich full, flavors. Well aged, notes of blackberries and earth. Medium-bodied, soft tannins. — 8 years ago

I definitely like BC Pinot noir roses — 9 years ago
Washington is great for Merlot. Seven Hills is known for being a beacon of sorts. They are generally the first to harvest. This is from their top Merlot blocks from the 37 year old vines in their estate vineyard. Seven Hills wines age like crazy and their Merlot based stuff calls more to the Right Bank in Bordeaux than the new world. Living in Washington, I think I view Seven Hills like listening to the Beatles or The Stones. Too much looking for the new thing & not listening enough to what one knows is great. This is great. — 9 years ago
A very nice off-dry riesling to pair with mildly spicy food. Great balance between residual sugar and acidity. Transitions flawlessly in the palate from apples to wet stones to lime. Great wine considering the price paid — 10 years ago
Lake Breeze Seven Poplars Sauvignon Blanc 2012 - lovely example of how expressive BC Sauv Blanc can be. Take me to the tropics! — 12 years ago

Blackberry, big blueberry, a bit of raspberry, and loose, fuzzy tannins here... Ten years after the 2009 vintage, this one's still got a bit of room to run... That said, I wouldn't call this one tight... The Syrah contributes some pepper... I'll admit that Syrah-Cabernet isn't my favorite blend, but it was great revisiting this one after a memorable visit to the tasting bar at the winery over seven years ago with my buddy... We hit Naramata every summer, and though we've started sticking with our favorites, this place likely deserves a return visit. — 7 years ago
