Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

I guess I’m drinking this too soon! Need to better manage the cellar… tremendous fruit on the nose as I decanted that became more vegetal with time. Bright and leathery on the tongue, rich and luscious in the mouth. Strong tannins — easy to see how others are enjoying it at twice the age. — 3 months ago

Okanagan Valley VQA Pinot Noir 2021

Pale ruby in color; vanilla, cherries, and dried herbs on the nose; medium acidity; mild tannins; tastes like cranberries, cloves, and hibiscus with a long finish. — 8 months ago

Marchesi Antinori

Tignanello Toscana Super Tuscan Blend 2018

2018 vintage. Needs a 7-10 split of years to lose the baby fat and precocious ways. Undeniably delicious now and don’t see this shutting down in a noticeable way over that decade. 4.8.23. — a year ago

When they say bring your A game you can think of this bottle. This is an amazing glass of wine. It benefits from decanting for a good bit. Upon opening I thought of dusty plum and cedar on the nose. Tasting brought plum, currant, blackberries, vintage leather plus an array of other items indicative of this style of big wine. There is a good mix of tannins and acid that makes this a classic great glass of wine. I want to try it again in a few years to see how much better it may get. — 2 years ago

Château Léoville Barton

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

A murky purple magenta color, but still appears young. Very aromatic with beautiful notes of blackberry, perfume followed by sandalwood, wet rich soil, pencil lead and sweet oak. Tastes young with tannins still present leaving many years for aging. Primary flavors of blackberry cedar and bitter sweet chocolate with secondary notes of cassis, new leather, pepper, dried herbs, and gravel giving it a long dry finish. Should pair with our Neapolitan marinara pizza and pasta dinner tonight. Looking forward to see what another several years will add to its flavor profile. — 4 months ago

Insignia Estate Grown Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2019

Huge red fruit, soft tannins. An absolute baby with at least 20 years to evolve. Long lingering aftertaste on the mid pallet. Minerality and tannins will continue to become a bigger part of the taste profile. I won't try again for a few years. Huge upside. You can and should purchase while still available. A great addition to the wine cellar. Now that Phelps has sold it will be interesting to see what they do with Insignia.🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 9 months ago

Tenuta Monolo

Riserva Bramaterra Nebbiolo Blend 1990

A mixed bag, possibly due to a semi poor ( crumbly) cork. Aged Nebbiolo can sometimes feel to me like Ms Haversham’s preserved room-fascinating how some of it’s spirit has been kept alive, but ultimately too musty to enjoy. Let’s see how next bottle fares. — 6 months ago

Not ready for prime-time just yet, but that didn’t prevent us from committing the felony.
Pale straw color in the glass links up with lemon curd and a hint of gooseberries. Robust acidity frames this up nicely. Finishes taught and with urgency. Drinking the best wines in the world can be a little like fumbling around in the dark. But with this, I can see in the dark.

Sounds like a great bottle and I would take it happily even if a bit early. Great writeup

Poor vintage great bottle. Should last easily another 10 years. See also Eric Asimov‘s review of most notable bottles of 2021 in the NYT. — 2 years ago
