It was a LastBottle wine. I think 59? Here's their description: SO --- what does a "cult" Napa Valley winery (think: tiny production, famous winemaker and vineyard manager, etc.) do when they make 400 cases of killer $175+ Cab but only want to come out with 200 cases? Well, they quietly call a friend....maybe someone in the wine biz that has been around the block a few times....someone....DISCREET. That is US! We created the Sleeper brand specifically to curate these kinds of once-in-a-lifetime type deals that occasionally come our way. Our first vintage of this blockbuster was the 2012, when we tasted a STAGGERINGLY DELICIOUS barrel sample of Cabernet and did everything in our power to lock some in for Sleeper. THANK THE STARS, we also got a few barrels of the 2013 (another chart-topping vintage) and it is time to unleash the kraken!! The wine has been resting in bottle for about 6 months and is now ready --- here's the scoop (well, as much as we can legally tell you!!).

-- 100% Cabernet, 100% Single Vineyard, 1000+FT elevation, just below Howell Mountain AVA.
-- Made by a VERY famous Napa winemaker, a name you would ALL know, responsible for DOZENS of highly coveted wines and DOZENS of huge scores (and prices!!)
-- MAN, we WISH we could tell you who made this....but those 4 pages of non-disclosures we signed prevent us....

09' Favia Cerro Sur Red. 60% Cabernet Franc, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. The CF is done in all new oak.

Raspberry & floral notes on the nose. The front of my palate I'm getting an earthiness to it, with hints of coffee. Towards the front, more to the middle & back of my palate ...Raspberries, blackberries, black licorice, spices & oak. It's such an expressive wine, but not over top! 09 is drinking great now. What's even scarier is that the 2010 is slightly better. I'm sooooo looking forward to trying the 12/13's🙂. What he does with blending CF 😘.

I'm a very big fan of Andy Ericksons and his collection of wines. Is it just me… has his collection of wines gotten considerably better over the years?!? Can't imagine not receiving these gems several times a year. Hoping he's coming out with a Chardonnay in the upcoming years. (It might just be rumors) I'll cross my fingers anyway.

I heard rumors that this vintage has really come out of its shell, and I was pleased to find the rumors true. Dark, dark Syrah fruit. Sweet, deep and intense for a Michel wine, but open. Several great producers have studied under Robert Michel, including Thierry Allemand. I love his wines and it's always tough popping these bottles since he retired in 2006. — 12 years ago
