Hartford Court

Three Jacks Vineyard Chardonnay 2016

16’ Hartford Court Three Jacks Vineyard.
Better then my last bottle!! Medium/deep golden color to it. Tangerine, dried apricot, banana, a drop of caramel.
Medium+ bodied, vibrant & fresh, with good acidity & nice richness. No need to hold on to these wines. Enjoy!

Impressive. Blue-black color. Deep and complex aromas of black currant and plum; cedar and licorice. Rich but not sweet in the mouth. Delicious and should evolve for many years. — 7 years ago

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1989

Somm David T
9.2

When it comes to my B-day, there is only one fit, an old Pichon Lalande with my Ribeye. As a lover of Bordeaux, these two are my favorite pairing. It’s a very slow walk to the finishline. A small bite of steak and a sip of 89 Pichon Lalande. Then, repeat until finished. I had some concerns about this bottle. A slightly slippery and crumbling cork. The first sip was not bad, but not what you want or are expecting. After some time in the decanter, it really started to shine. On the nose; ripe, ruby, floral cassis, blackberries, dark sweet & sour cherries, baked strawberries, blue fruit hues, dry cranberries, baked rhubarb, saddlewood, soft, used leather, bay leaf, touch of sage, hint of spearmint, eucalyptus, vanilla, cinnamon, crushed dry crushed rock powder, black turned earth, dry brown soil with clay, tobacco leaf and perfumed red florals with violets. The body is full, round and silky. Tannins are well resolved at around 80%. The texture, length, tension and length are in a sweet spot. The fruits are ripe, ruby & expressively floral. Blackberries, dark sweet & sour cherries, baked strawberries, blue fruit hues, dry cranberries, baked rhubarb, saddlewood, soft, used leather, bay leaf, touch of sage, hint of spearmint, eucalyptus, vanilla, cinnamon, crushed dry crushed rock powder, black turned earth, dry brown soil with clay, scorched earth, tobacco leaf and perfumed red florals with violets. The acidity is just a little off but still nice. The finish is divided nearly equally in fruit, earth, florals and herbaceous. It’s very enjoyable but falls just a little short in longer, lingering length. This bottle had good storage, not great. Even so, still has another three to five years ahead. A bottle with excellent storage has another five years beyond this one. Photos of; the backside of Pichon Lalande, angled terrace view of their vines right next to Latour, my steak & twice baked potato (so good) and CEO Nicolas Glumineau. — 8 years ago

Greg Ballington
9.0

Light ruby red. Beautiful color. Intense and rich nose from the pop-n-pour. Plum cherries, red berries, purple floral notes, some cinnamon and a touch of petrol. Great structure on the palate with moderate acidity (6.5/10). Medium to medium plus body with tons of red berries, light broken twigs and wet minerality. Medium plus finish. We believe this is their entry level Pinot. Excellent work. Drink till 2021 — 9 years ago

The Rule Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Smoky and leather on the nose, with a touch of dark plum. Taste is dry, grassy, young, powerful tannins, with a mix of sweetness and acidity. Aftertaste of refreshing grass, sweet currant, and tannins gives me the impression that it has the potential to age. — 11 years ago

Château Kirwan

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 1982

Got lucky with this 1986 Margaux. Hennings in Chichester had a few bottles all of which had lost a good three quarter inch so it was hit and miss but hadn't lost any of the roundness and complexity. A "meat and potatoes" wine with full, full body and beautiful rich fruit finish. Buy it and take the punt. — 12 years ago

Château Mouton Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

The 2014 Mouton Rothchild is a stunning wine that is already making its case for one of the wines of the vintage. Graphite, salted dark fruits, tar and mocha with a touch of red bell pepper all marvelously combine on the nose. Silky and marvelously textured, with an incredible complexity and viscosity, the wine shows wonderful brightness and a seamless quality that artfully dances across the mid-palate. Stunning and simply marvelous even at the five year mark, this is only an infant now and has decades of life to go. Try to resist this beauty for at least three more years. Lange Winery

Three Hills Cuvée Pinot Noir 2002

Now quite evolved at nearly twenty years of age, the 2002 Lange Estate ‘Three Hills Cuvee’ marvelously showcases this incredible vintage in Oregon as the wine is showing brilliantly right now. The palate is plush and dense, showing wonderful range and tension. Black fruits, citrus rind, pomegranate seed and black truffle. Complex and delicious, this is right in its sweet spot. The wine shows good mid-palate richness and is nowhere near finished as this will cellar well for the next decade. Drink 2019-2028- 93 — 7 years ago

Three Vineyard Blend Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Wine of the weekend! Only the second time in Diamond Creek’s illustrious history when they’ve blended fruit from all three vineyards. Having tasted all three ‘13s (which are all outstanding wines — RP gave 98, 99, 100 I believe), this bottling is my favorite. Drinking remarkably well today and will just get better with time. Three Finger Jack

East Side RIdge Lodi Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

This wine plays the outlaw image to the hilt. Lodi Cab faces off in a dusty street against Napa Cab, the fastest gun in town. They both shoot straight, but in different directions. Three Finger Jack has a nose of rustic black fruit, tar, forest floor, with only a hint of graphite. The palate leans in a more elegant direction, but still stands its ground as an “outsider.” It's a delightful drink, with plenty of pairing power and the tannic structure to prove it. — 7 years ago

A. Rafanelli

Unfiltered Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel 2015

K, this rating is certainly biased by my past experience with A. Rafanelli which has been amazing. Unless you want to open 2015 and allow to sit a couple days...wait! This is too young to be opened which makes me grateful I have another bottle I’ll crack open in, say, a year or so and it’ll be perfect out of the bottle. That said I tasted this day by day for three days and it just kept improving. If you open too young give it TIME. In youth it needs some time but once it has time? Hot damn. The tannins, alcohol, acid and fruit are in equal balance three days in...now. Wait two years and it may be extraordinary out of the bottle. — 8 years ago

Durell Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012

Massive butter bomb. Origionally served chilled and it showed very well. As it warmed up the malo took over the wine and it became very viscous and greasy on the finish. Serve and keep chilled. I am excited to see what Bob Cabral is going to bring to this project. A dash of structure could make these wines hedonistic as well as well structured. I will be keeping an eye on Three Sticks. — 11 years ago
