The nose like barely rotten fruit. A taste that was buttery and deep, with just a hint of mold. — 7 years ago
100% Nebbiolo
Bricked purple. Opaque, non transparent. Compact rim. Looks its age.
Aromas full of earthy characters. Black truffle, ashes, damp soil, wet rotten woods, with licorice flavored coffee, slight hint of dark chocolate.
Structurally, this wine has a long way to go yet. Substantial but completely integrated tannin, medium to med full body (14.5 abv), medium to med plus acidity, dry. Dried black cherry, fig, prune and plum. Fine texture. Mineral and ashy notes. Dusty. Balanced, carrying through from the first sip until the finish. Last very long on that enticing dried fruit and ashy profile.
At a great place to drink now. At $30+ in NYC, this's got to be my find of the year so far. Amazing bottle. Loved by everyone I shared with. 92. — 8 years ago
bouquet of wet earth, animal, barnyard, rotten black cherries, cedar, very ripe cranberry... the palate gives tart ripe cranberry, wood, dried herbs, real barnyard with a solid core of cranberry/sour cherry. wowzers. — 9 years ago
Imagine aged plums and white cherries blowing a hole through the back of your skull like a 12 gauge. That only partially captures the experience of this amarone on the nose. Medium minus acidity and gentle tannins make this quaffable, yet still deserving of a considered reflection. High quality producer, corked. — 9 years ago
Scorched earth, dried herbs and rotten berry fruit, tannin abound and a lengthy, weighty finish. — 7 years ago
bouquet of brown sugar, prunes, slightly rotten plums, a little balsamic, ripe black cherries, ink, blackberries, savory meat....tasting contributed: burnt sugar, black plums and a little coca-cola with roast duck!.... rich and soft thanks to the grenache, with the nielluccio giving some steely acidity. fine tannins as well. wow! thank you Corsica. — 8 years ago
sadly the cork had broken down, and this beauty was oxidized. smelled ofrot, vinyl, rotten peaches.
however......flavors showed honey, graham cracker, peach liquor, some faint wood. tasted way better than its smell would suggest. even flawed this was great. — 9 years ago
a bouquet of funky slightly rotten hay, yeast, sweet cream, a little lemon
flavors show lots of lemon and cream with some stone, pretty elegant despite the funky aromas. nice mouthfeel. — 9 years ago
This is a great Viking style brew. You know, compared to the other Viking style brews I've had..... — 9 years ago
Earthy from the aging (2011), black licorice, amazing rotten fruit, lemonade. Thanks PMO — 7 years ago
Our favorite from Moore Bros. so far. Smells vegetal, but not rotten or mossy. Medium bodied. Dry. Not fruity, except maybe something like sour plum. Easy to drink. — 8 years ago
Cork was rotten on bottom half of cork. As it opened up was relieved no cork or bad wine. Smooth, velvet, leather and black cherries. I really enjoyed this wine. — 8 years ago
Well balanced sweet with plenty of other components, honey and that German petrol on the nose, sweet honey on the palate with lots of ripe fruits to finish. The finish has the taste of a fruit that is so ripe it's nearly rotten but oh so lovely at the same time. Lots of depth. I like it for what it is!! — 9 years ago
