Medium deep garnet, ruby core with medium light garnet rim . This is quite meaty and deep on the nose , with earthy dark cherry , porcini , sweet blackberry and spiced sous bois . On the palate this is quite severe and serious , darker fruits , ripe blackberry , cherry and hint of blackcurrant, herbal hints. Quite gritty , slightly drying tannins , fresh acidity . Earthy , dusty dark cherry edged finish , ok medium length. Quite ambitious for a village and arguably not ready yet , tannins need a little more time to integrate. Third 90 Ponsot bottle served blind. This is bright tawny and translucent. When compared to the CSD served before it, this is more masculine with a dark cherry nose that is tight for the first 4-5 hours. By the time it’s served, though, it’s opened up and comes on as a rich and very powerful glass of juice. In addition to the regular notes of bing cherry, dark earth and rhubarb, this adds some mocha and a little cherry cola as well. Has a Rousseau-like precision in its delivery. This may go down as red wine of the year for me. Which given the time of year and upcoming events is High Praise indeed. But none the less reality. Epic nose. The unmistakable smell of a slaughterhouse over summer. Meat and blood. A huge hit of licorice, leather, and smoke and cherries. The Finish lasted nearly a minute, and had a Mossy granite tone to it that reminded me of climbing in the gunks in the fog. Amazing. Gift from wife’s French client. The cork was saturated and crumbled, didn’t have much hope, but the nose revealed bright red fruit, some potpourri, alongside the tertiary mushroom and dried leaves you’d assume. The palate reflected this with sour cherry, strawberry, orange peel, and a hint of mushroomy cola. Lots of fine sediment. Very enjoyable. — 9 months ago

Can’t get stop going after ‘15 Burgundy. Here, from one of region’s elite and from the fabulous Combe aux Moines vineyard, deeply flavored and beautifully perfumed, ripe black cherries, red raspberry, exotic spices and damp earth. Brownish tawny. Notes of cherries, spice, mushrooms, dark earth and a little kirsch that developed over the night. In the mouth the fruit is faded but there is still a nice structure to it. Declined in performance over the night. I gave the last bottle too much airtime before tackling it. This was enjoyable right away with a pop, decant and pour. — 6 years ago
Still youthful garnet color. Almost opaque. Fruit forward nose with notes of black cherry, rhubarb, brambly brush, moist earth and a little menthol. Fruit matches the acidity and delivers amazing balance. Another 96 that seems to have come around. A few years the acidity was too much to handle, but now it’s got a nice balance. — 8 years ago
