Frankly: I am surprised at how dynamic and Mâcon this is at 6+ years! It was said and chirpy as only wines with dry extract can be. Delicious with roasted potato leek soup -especially in this odd season between an Indian Summer and that penetrating November rain. Great tension here. — 10 years ago
Toasted caramel. A hint of clouds, lightning, and rain. Smooth smokey finish. Really good scotch. — 10 years ago
Fresh as summer rain, superb and delicate. A deserved crowd favorite from the first #rieslingfeier in 2012. — 11 years ago

A deluge of rain just prior to harvest made for a challenging vintage in 2013, a "winemaker's vintage" in the Willamette Valley, but there are bright spots, wines with nuance and freshness. Willamette Valley Vineyards is one such wine, worthy of consideration, with classic raspberry and Rainier cherry notes, trail dust, and mahogany wood. On the palate, tart cranberries and pomander ball lead into a finish of moderate length, inlaid with minerality and tinged with spice. 13.4% ABV | Sample — 10 years ago
Zingy and fruity. Light butter on the nose with white peach. Light Citrus, minerality, rain water, white peach on the palate. Delicious for a summer dinner — 11 years ago
Fruity and fresh, could drink all day. — 12 years ago

The original label from Phelps. This wine qualifies as the reason you age wine as long as you do. The tannins are still there yet only 95% resolved even after 23 years or 21 in bottle. The wine melts in your mouth. There's nothing angular or rubs your palate the wrong way. The fruits are still dark cassis; blackberries, black cherries, black plum skin, melted mocha milk chocolate, raspberry chocolate cake, dry crushed rocks, spice-box, dry florals, old leather, vanilla, it's crazy but there's a hit of baked peach coming through, there is still a little tension, it's still showing great balance, structure, length, acidity and a finish that does not end. This wine still has 3-5+ years of life even out of 750ml. It's one of the best old Phelps I've had in awhile and I've recently had a number of old Insignia's and Backus's from the 80's and 90's. Given what I paid for this wine, I feel like I've stolen candy from a baby and then some. The purity is incredible if not just plain ridiculous!!! This 93 is sunlight in the rain w/ a rainbow. — 9 years ago

Grapefruit blossom, spring rain and medium+ minerality. Amazing. #happyfourth — 10 years ago
Not the greatest of Bordeaux vintages (I remember a lot of rain!) but the great Chateaux made less and made it well. 21 years on, this wine has all the hallmarks of the greatest Clarets. Incredible concentration despite a moderate 12.5% alc. and incredible youth & fresh activist too. A rare joy. — 10 years ago
