Focused, floral, and spicy. The wine leans heavy towards primal Syrah aromatics and flavors but shows the type of warmth and texture seen in southern French reds, like CDP. — 10 years ago
Domaine Henri Jayer Echézeaux 1990: Get out your Pharrell-style ranger hat because this concentrated, full-bodied #wine transports you straight to the forest with its pronounced notes of underbrush and cedar. Joining this sous-bois character are big swathes of dark fruit and traces of leather. The mile-long finish evokes cedar and bone broth, a primal revitalizer if there ever was one. Despite its quarter-century of age, it is still lively and intriguing, still moving like Jagger. — 10 years ago

Not too heavy, well balanced with a consistent finish. Solid north coast can — 9 years ago
A marriage of younger more primal and pear driven whisky blended with much older whisky matured in sherry casks. The unmistakable peat and terroir of ardbeg shows brilliantly, with the older sherries whisky providing even more detail and finesse. Warmer flavors than the Corryvreckan. Exemplary in is depth and density. 54+% abv, and takes very well to a few drops of water. — 10 years ago
Satisfying on a primal level as we dive into boeuf bourguignon. — 10 years ago
2005. Primal nose, very closed. Hints if rose petal, tar, cherry pit and loam. Reminds me of Chiavennasca grapes from Valtellina. — 10 years ago
A primal, bloody Pinot Noir that combines subtle red fruits with iron and blood. Hedonism in a bottle. — 11 years ago

Downgraded a bit. This never seemed to get out of "oak" mode. Be sure to allow at least 2 hours of air time before drinking. Initially, there was only vanilla (oak), but now, it's all about black raspberry, with smoke, rhubarb, earth, pepper and raw meat. It evokes primal tendencies in the moments before a year ends and a new one begins. As the Beatles said, "It's getting better all the time." — 10 years ago
I figured I'd see what the big deal is and pop one of these bad boys. Big fruit nose and great symmetry but slight heat is holding me back from going up a few more points. This has the stuffing for greatness in 3-5years when it comes together, bit for now still quite primal. If you like your Pinot young and ripe then go for it, but I will wait a few years. 94pts — 10 years ago
Primal wine... Always enjoyable! — 11 years ago
Thought provoking Syrah. Smells of blood and game, primal cave man wine. Generous attack evolving into a linear sharper symmetry. #nextlevelshit — 11 years ago

This wine is an extreme primal experience! Dark Ruby, cola-reduction, fur, rotting flowers, roasted meat, white pepper, bacon, smoked root vegetables, and great minerality. The tannins are backing down a bit, 9 years in. A completely engaging and epic bottle of wine! — 9 years ago
