When mature Jamet are on they’re sooo good. ‘98 is gorgeous tonight and even less evolved than a prior bottle. There’s such balance and clarity to its haunting richness wafting complex aromatics of deep blackberry fruit, smoked meats, camphor and black truffle with an elegant, satiny palate, melting tannins and a stunningly long mineral and savory finale. For my tastes, at its peak! — 9 months ago
2005. Gorgeous wine. Hit all the high notes. 92 — 6 years ago
An awesome Christmas gift a couple years ago from @Joe Lucca and this had me jolly. As with many old wines from Piemonte the nose was wonky on pop. Wet cardboard, dirty socks, potential TCA, but it all blew off pretty quickly. Instead of fading it ascended as the night went on. It settled in to a classic mature well stored Barbaresco. It still possesses ample sweet red fruit, tobacco leaf, balsamic and mushroom. Reports from @romo are that it was even better on day 2. — 7 years ago

Pretty red cherry fruit with exotic spices minty truffle notes and black tar. Very smooth and silky textures with exotic truffle spice and a long fresh finish very most excellent+ — 13 years ago
Medium ruby garnet with a quite wide garnet rim . Quite explosive from the off with spicy , stemmy violet , smoky darker fruits, touch of cassis with some dark cherry , and allspice. On the palate this again shows quite exotic fruit , mix of red and dark , dry spices with smoky violets . This has quite a generous mouthfeel with some noticable tannin still and balanced acidity . Quite long and mineral tinged on the palate , with smoky , cherry , black tea finish . Still pretty young and fruit driven , balanced alcohol and ripe tannin. Probably better in 5 - 10 years and will last well a further 10. — 8 months ago
Pretty much the same as the Pavillon Rouge , ruby garnet core and garnet ruby rim. This is quite serious and classic , with blackcurrant , grafite , blackberry , mineral hints, oyster shell and cedar . The tannin is still quite grippy and a little drying , quite fresh acidity , dry spice and grafite tinged finish of good length . Mineral , grafite , oyster shell finish . Needs a little more time to integrate the tannins , but it’s promising and classic in style . Better in 5 years and will last well a further 10-15 . — 8 months ago
Fortunate enough to have tasted this along with 6 other stunning wines last night during a cellar tasting. This 36 year old 2nd growth was nearly perfect, unusual but very pleasant mint, camphor, crushed sage and rosemary aromas with the same cooling delicate herbal initial palate. Dried but expressive red fruits mid- palate with a great structural graphite element throughout. Whiff of new leather. Changed in the glass showing different mellow facets. Pretty much intercepted at the exact right time. A real privilege to taste such a renowned vintage with folks who appreciates what was in front of them. — 7 years ago
Sweetness indicates California, delicacy and structure points to Monte Bello. Gorgeous wine, love it. — 8 years ago

Decanted for around an hour, the recently released 2013 Grand Vin from Chateau Musar is an enormous wine at present in its youth. Gradually, it opened into a gorgeous, exotic and utterly unique product of this unlikely corner of the wine world. There’s plenty of Bordeaux-like character in the form of dark fruit and cigar box, but there are notes too of cranberry, liquorice, clove, mandarin and five spice. The mouthfeel, as a whole, has a quasi Brunello quality to it, with its bright cherry fruit and mouthwatering acidity. But woe is anyone to compare this wine to any other, for it is incomparable. One of Serge Hochar’s last vintages before his passing in 2014, and one that will doubtless have a long life. — 5 years ago

Medium ruby garnet, quite thin garnet terracotta rim . Quite rich , with ripe red fruits , some tobacco , warm spiciness , cigar box , ripe cassis , sous bois , after a while touch of coffee. On the palate this also shows good roundness with ripe red and dark fruits, cassis , red plum , grafite , touch of earthiness . Balanced acidity and rounded sweet tannin . Quite juicy with a grafite edged finish . Pretty good length. This is at peak now . For now and over the next 5 -8 years. Quite generous and showy , ripe but balanced, a good showing. — 7 months ago
