I like this wine. I’m not a big cherry person but this wine has some chocolate in it as well which I like. This will be one of my favorites. — 8 years ago
Forgot to add this in on the 4th. The Release Party was a lot of fun and we were lucky enough to meet @Shay Aldriedge in person! Also a solid wine and loved the single vineyards we got to try.
Dark purplish ruby red. Tons of baking spices on the nose with black and dark red fruits. Heavy tannins (8/10) and similar notes on the palate. Full bodied and long finish. Drink till 2030. — 8 years ago
Normally I'm not a savingon blanc person but I loved this! — 9 years ago
I received a selection of Catena wines following an interview with Dr. Laura Catena (to her credit, she's an amazing person and a part time ER doc). Her 2014 High Mountain Vines Cabernet displays glorious aromas of black currant, anise, mocha, exotic spice, and cedar. Medium weight, elevation has endowed this Argentine Cab with elegance and silkiness stitched against a backdrop of fine tannins and high acidity. It’s fresh and intense with a finish that flirts with saline-tipped minerality. — 9 years ago
2001 vintage. This wine was amazing and cheers to an amazing person, Jim Gurley. — 9 years ago
Great rich, fruity spicy red to compliment a delicious beach side meal. Just missing a certain person to enjoy with me! — 10 years ago
More of a cab person but was pretty surprised with this merlot. Took my nose and mouth on a journey through juicy fruit, leather, some pepper and spice and a touch of floral. Yum — 10 years ago
Drinking at a special place with my special person. This is the perfect red wine! — 12 years ago
I'm not much of a bubbly wine person, but this drinks like candy (although not overly sweet). And it's not as dry as most champagnes that I've had, which I like. — 12 years ago
One day wine sale today at all Northern California Whole Foods locations. 20% off all wine. 30% off any six bottles or more. Can’t find this any other place for $59. Knock em down! If you live in another part of the country, you just have to ask the wine department person when they do theirs. Tell the wine person to add you to his email reminder list for pre-order or just the sale date reminder. I believe they do it three times a year. — 7 years ago
I would not buy a case of it.... but I would buy it again. Dry. Subtle flavors that you have to look for. I must say I love the person who reviewed this by just stating "goddamn". — 8 years ago
Williams Selyem is one of the most consistent producers of Pinot in Sonoma. They must be farmers at heart because the fruit they grow is always generally very good to excellent. The raspberry flavors in their Pinots always stand out to me when I have them. Not that I'm a points person by any stretch of the imagination, but I've always felt like their wines are under scored by critics. Maybe, because they only score them young and for the most part don't revisit them much later as when I enjoy them. That said, this Russian River is drinking beautifully tonight. Certainly, one of the better 02 Pinots I've had and 02 was a very good year for Pinots generally speaking. The fruits in this 02 are singing after 12years in the bottle. Dark cherries, black raspberries, raspberries, dark cherries, strawberry preserves, dry cranberries, concentrated pomegranate juice, pronounced spices, sprinkle of light herbs, nutmeg, vanilla, cinnamon, dark fresh & dry florals, gritty chalkiness, grey volcanic minerals & dry stems. The structure is still very sound as is the tension, length and balance. Acidity is near perfect and the round, lush, polished finish doesn't end. — 8 years ago
This is my 1000th wine on Delectable and I wanted to post something that meant something special to me. @Steve Anderson brought this to an incredible tasting we attended last night at a beautiful cellar in the home of @Scott Kahn who graciously hosted many of our local tasting group among wives, neighbors and other friends of his. It was an exemplary night that I had to cut much shorter than I preferred because I had to pick up my teenage daughter from a friend's house. It was a perfect storm of many important elements impacting my life both past and present. First and foremost I am a Father and even though my daughter called me much earlier than I wanted on an evening of wine involving first growths, Napa giants and Burg greats....I left because I was needed. My daughter just recently started living with me and we've been through a lot in the last year. The men I was with are almost all parents who totally get the importance of my daughter in my life....they are exceptional Dad's who have raised special kids. I respect them immensely and that is why I am honored that wine brought me together with a group that I would not likely have become friends with without it. Wine does that. It bridges gaps. It creates memories. It develops community. Delectable has done that for me as well. I have never been much of a social media guy but something about this app drew me in. Yes it was the wine...but it's the people that make this "place" truly special. I've made legit friends here and I'm better for it. I spent an amazing weekend in Chicago this summer with @Roman Sukley and @DAG...those 2 couldn't have been more generous, gracious or cool. I've also developed a synergy with @Ron R @TheSkip @Martin G Rivard @David A Lentine @Kimberly Anderson and many others I've never met but I feel like I know somehow. These people know who they are.....but back to the wine. Montelena has a special place in my heart. When I passed the bar in '93 I brought a '87 Montelena to dinner that night. Just me and my Mom. She grew up on a dirt road in a small rural town in North Carolina. Not wine country. By the time we shared the Montelena she had become a pretty ardent Chardonnay fan but did not seem to take to reds. Wine was fairly new to me but I was always trying to get her engaged with my love of red wine. Unsuccessfully. That night we shared a meal and memories at the La Valencia hotel in La Jolla and enjoyed that bottle. She was proud of me and said so. Without reservation. I was the first person on either side of my family to graduate college and now I was a lawyer. The moment touched her and it has stayed with me always. She said "you're my only child and I'm so proud of the man you've become and now you're a lawyer. I can't believe it. More than that I can't believe how much I loooooove this wine. I'm actually more impressed with that!" My Mom had a sense of humor too 😉 and right there a lifetime memory was created over a bottle that now had meaning beyond the wine. When she passed suddenly in '05 I had dinner with her husband. I brought a '90 Ausone and a '91 Montelena. We toasted my Mom. I have no recollection of the $500 Ausone but the Montelena is still one of my top 10 wines of all time. Each wine is its own experience and those you share it with enhance that experience immeasurably. Cherish each glass....and @Steve Anderson thank you for granting my request by bringing that bottle. You know now why I chose it. — 9 years ago
Hell yes. Crisp, refreshing, chuggable - 1L seems about the right serving size per person. Why aren't we getting these kind of food friendly table wines out of every domestic AVA? @Steve Matthiasson is a treasure. — 10 years ago
To a wonderful person, a beautiful life, live life to the fullest... To mom! — 11 years ago
Love this wine. It is a Sauvignon Blanc. I am a red wine person and will definitely enjoy this white wine. The flavors are wonderful. Grapefruit, pungent grass and fresh thyme on the nose. Peach citrus melon. Crisp and bright. 90 pts wine spectator. — 12 years ago
Celebrating a very important birthday with a very important person. <3

It’s good. It’s bright. All the ripe grapefruit and lemon and hints of white flower one might wish for. But not something I’d seek out. So I’d call it solid and probably perfect for a person who just wants something bright and perfect but not exceptionally nuanced or interesting. But fucking tasty all the same. — 8 years ago
If you thought Australian wine weren't for you or just weren't that noteworthy, you haven't had Dan Standish's wines. This is as good as any great producer I've had anywhere. On the nose, boysenberry, blueberries, black raspberries, olallieberries, raspberries, vanilla, nutmeg, clove, Asian spices, raspberry cola, dry stems and brilliantly fragrant violets. The mouthfeel and texture are liquid elegant heaven. 12 years in the bottle and it's just now peaking. On entry, it's a rush of ripe, lush; boysenberry, blueberries, black raspberries, raspberries &raspberry cola. Dark chocolate, darker but mellowed spices with uplifting heat, hint of pepper, loamy moist soils, dusty tannins, crushed dry rocks, vanilla, nutmeg, clove, blue fruit pie with crust, volcanic minerals, liquid fragrant violets, perfect acidity with a finish that doesn't fade and lasts minutes. The tension, length, structure and balance push perfection. photos of; estate with with Dan, wide side shot of the estate, a sample of the soil structure of the vineyard this wine is grown...under the top soil and Dan's estate vines. Producer history and notes...The Standish Wine Company was created in 1999. Dan Standish purchased a small parcel of Old Vine Shiraz from his parent’s vineyard in the heart of the Barossa Valley. The 96-year old vines are planted on the typical sand over clay soil profile characteristic of Vine Vale the sub region of the Barossa Valley. Dan never got a enology degree. He learned on his own traveling to the Rhone Valley. The influence definitely comes out in his wines despite the very different terroirs. He's worked in various regions around the world including; Napa, Sonoma and La Rioja. After he returned to Australia, he eventually became the Winemaker at Torbreck in the Barossa Valley. Interestingly, Dan worked as a chemical engineer prior to his career as a Winemaker. Meeting him for the first time in April was a pleasure. He is a true salt of the earth type of person, with a great sense of humor, who is absolutely passionate about making wine. He marches to his own drum...not at all a person who follows trends or changes styles if something or one becomes successful. His wines are beautifully special if you can find them on Winesearcher or other. He does not have, need nor want a US importer. He sells all his wine through his mailing list. You can order his wines from here but the shipping charges are hugely expensive from Australia. The shipping cost for three bottles were as much as the cost of the three bottles. The quality of his wines will stand in there with any producer world wide. Tasting his new releases in April was impressive. Finding a well aged bottle back in the US to enjoy tonight is simply fabulous! — 8 years ago
Fantastic! Served to 62 person Rosenthal wine dinner, the positive response was overwhelming proving people in FL love great balanced wines. — 10 years ago
I'm a big red wine type of person. This is Paloma's little sister. Grapes from dry creek valley. Best wine I've had from that area ever. Wish they still made. I've had 2007 as well and both are outstanding. — 10 years ago
Very great vintage with a dry sweet texture wonderful with a nice home cooked meal, and the right person to enjoy it with :) — 10 years ago
Not much of a red wine person but this one was very nice!!! — 11 years ago
Not a rosé person normally but this was very tasty — 12 years ago
The best person to drink wine with. There is no value you can place on this wine. I wish I could share this with all of you. — 12 years ago

Assistant Winemaker Delicato Family Vineyards
Lake Nelson had too many sand flies so had to jaunt down the road for 10 minutes to this river campsite. Was only $5 bucks per person for the site. This wine helped heal the wounds of the flies. Dense, killer weight, a touch waxy and plenty oaky. Killer views from their tasting room too. — 7 years ago
