One of the 3 second wines of 5th growth Haut Bages Liberal. Even better than the last time - typical Pauillac barnyard notes. 92 — 9 years ago
This was a bottle lost in my cellar. Stored in a field stone cellar for about 31 years! The cork was great and came out whole- no problem. Drank over an hour and never lost its fruit. Totally in harmony just sweet cherry fruit with still good length. One of those great surprises. Had it with a spicy preparation of hanger steak and enjoyed it with my Love PJ. Sill great nose, lively — 11 years ago
Well structured elegantly balanced wine, with a long finish. Much nicer than the Haut-Bages Libéral 2010 which proceeded it.... — 12 years ago
The 1993 Pichon LaLande is great right now. Younger daughter's birthyear wine, drank with '89 Lynch Bages at Christmas dinner. More fruit than spice/tar in nose. Good acidity with softer tannins in the finish. Nice cherry fruit on the palate. Fruit lingered well in the finish. Drink up over next couple years. — 9 years ago
Le Haut - Medoc de Haut Bages Liberal is the third label of the well known 5th growth Pauillac, Château Haut-Bages Liberal. This is a great example of a Bordeaux sub $25 that drinks well in its price range. Notes of black fruits, dried tocacco, and cedar pour out of the bowl of the glass. On the pallet is a wonderful orchestration of black currant, graphite, minerals, fine tannin integration, and oak aging. This is a great expression of Cabernet Sauvignon, most likely due to a fantastic, once in a century growing year that produced top notch fruit. I tasted this at a young age, but I think this wine, due to its good acidity and structure, could age for several more years and maintain its youth.
I paired this with a New York Strip, sautéed kale and garlic, and cilantro lime rice; a successful pairing indeed! — 10 years ago
Vin assez gras nez flatteur — 11 years ago
On the nose: cedar, leather, cassis. Medium to full-bodied with a long finish. Better than Haut Bages Liberal — 13 years ago
Very true. Will seek more. — 7 years ago

Super Vintages of SuperSeconds🍷
Textbook Pauillac on the nose with cassis, dark fruits. Complex, concentrated with power and full body as it should be.
2eme GC Classé. 60% CS, 35% M, 4% CF, 1% PV. Fermented in steel tanks. Partly malo in barrel. Up to 18 mo aging in 70% new oak. Fining, no filtration.
Now Chateau is managed by Christian Seely. Great quality improvement starting from 2001.

See previous notes 30 weeks ago. Very similar. Mid Lemon in colour. Citrus on the nose with grapefruit predominant. The palate is overall a little more lean than I would like - a little austere for a 7 year old Chardonnay - perhaps the grapes were picked a little too early? Still lively with that acid but could do with a little more mid palate fruit. Made by Brian Croser who used to be at Petaluma some years ago before he started Tapanappa in 2002 in conjunction with Bollinger and the Cazes Family of Lynch Bages in Pauillac. Brian was Decanters Man of the Year in 2004. — 6 years ago
