The 2010 Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a stunning and seamless blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta that have been air-dried for 3-4 months, or until the grapes lose 40% of their volume. Voluptuous notes of incense, fresh road tar, figs, blackberry reduction and cedar waft from the glass. The palate echoes the nose—there is depth and richness equally matched by a rather nervy cord of mineral-laden acidity wrapped in dusty tannins. An excellent long finish dusted in cocoa powder and sweet tobacco. 15.3% ABV | Sample — 10 years ago

Beautiful #floral notes. Pronounced aroma of black berries, spices and #rosepetals notes. A wine of elegance and strength. Made in Valpolicella, using around 30% of #passito grapes, hence the name Arele, which apparently in Italy means the wooden rack for drying the grapes. The wine is made of mostly local grape varieties, including Corvina, Rondinella, Oseleta, and a splash of Merlot. It tastes round, full body but elegant with bright acidity to support the wine, and long finish. Well made. — 10 years ago

2011 - A new entry based in Tregnago, Eastern #Valpolicella. Old vines, good altitude (400 m. ) and a good balance of fruit and soft tannins. To watch! — 11 years ago
This culture also lives on in this “Selezione Antonio Castagnedi” Amarone. Formed of a blend of 70% Corvina, 20% Rondinella, 5% Croatina and 5% Oseleta grape varieties.
Sant’Antonio is a ruby red colour, with hints of garnet appearing towards the rim. Significant alcoholic legs mark out the 15% abv alcoholic content, with aromas of mixed cherries, prune and hints of raisin greeting the nose as this wine settles. — 11 years ago
