I had this one laying around for a while thinking it was too old to drink. I never had an incentive to open it especially considering the vintage. I expected to pour this down the drain and was I ever wrong! Loads of fresh fruit and the age has softened any hard edges. Very pleasantly surprised — 10 years ago

Clove. Star anise. Warmth. The acid that holds this wine together is stunning. At 15.7 abv (shows a little on the nose, but more on the finish) this is not a shy wine. Kudos Mike for giving 0 F's and making balanced killer Cali old vine zin. — 10 years ago

Big bold and beautiful. The bouquet flies out of the glass. My little brother introduced to Gamba and loved it since. The 2011 Starr Road brings everything black in fruit. From 90 years old, almost ancient vines this winner shows what true Zinfandel is all about; fruit packed and big, but with a freshness present that is balancing the wine throughout. The intense flavor and broad midpalate is embracing the 15,3 % alcohol which is barley being noticed, unless you drink to much of course..
