Tasting at Copain. Beautiful winery with some sweeping views of Sonoma. Again no bottles so just the menu. The Laurel grades was an amazing wine, parcel of land by the ocean. It had that salt/mineral undertone and was crisp. Tidal wave was also very good and similar to a savignon blanc. The high rock Syrah was very good they let’s us try an 09 to give an idea of how it evolves. Solid wine. The 2014 was too tannic to get a good feel for the wine. — 8 years ago

Took a couple days for this wine to open up and to really start strutting its stuff. Vibrant, primary, dark cherry fruit tones meet pine forest, spice, and licorice nuances. With the extended aeration, an intriguing mineral note also developed. Svelte (12.8%), yet vivacious and intimating appealing future complexities. Would be fun try again in 8+ years. — 11 years ago

On the palate, strawberry and cherry, tangy, with cedar notes and earthy tones. Bright acidity, soft expressive tannins, long finish ending with mineral and cedar spice. Excellent dried fruit and spice notes followed up by lush tastes of tart cherry, chocolate and spice. A very elegant and subtle wine with a finish of fruit and some earthiness. Another really good California Pinot in a more Burgundian style. Love it! — 10 years ago
