Norman Hardie

ZD Wines

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Founded in 1969 by two rocket scientists, ZD takes its name not only from its founders, Norman de Leuze and Gino Zepponi, but also from the engineering term Zero Defects. Sleek in its design, but with serious thrust, comparisons could be made to Corison or Montelena Estate, as well as some Left Bank Châteaux. Tart cranberry, cherry, and plum abound with purity, followed by 70% cacao, fresh pine, and damp cedar. Some secondary coconut oil adds a slightly exotic feel to an otherwise old school, savory-styled Napa Cab. Excellent. 93+ — 6 years ago

@Ron R - I use the term Gopher somewhat accurately. @Isaac Pirolo can find deals that no one else can and that cannot be replicated.

@Ron R - I totally agree with you. There’s something about north of $75 that makes me want ultra outstanding. Entry level Myriad, RM, Quivet all live south of that point and are great!!

As always, Skippy. We are aligned. Beau Vigne and Venge also come to mind in your category 🙂

Unfiltered Niagara Peninsula Chardonnay 2014

Lots of oak on the nose right off the bat, but halfway through the bottle this hits it's stride and never looks back. Mind boggling. — 8 years ago

Bright red fruit flavors with lush tannin. This wine can enjoyed on its own, with friends, on a sunny day. Or with rich duck confit and bbq'd red meats. Can't beat the price. -wine batman — 8 years ago

This is excellent. I'm always leary about trying something new but I have to say this one put a smile on my face with the first sip. Full body with a dark red color. The main thing I smell and taste is cherry. Happy Friday! It's been a long busy week. 🍷😉 — 8 years ago

Limestone Coast Shiraz Cabernet 2013

I like it 'cuz I grew up on Greg Norman Shiraz. And if I'd been his caddy in '96, he'd be masters champion. I get he hits it in the drink on 11 being aggressive. I give him the 9-iron on 12 and say "if you hit this right of the pin, so help me God I drop this bag, quit, and you Carey your own clubs." I then personally line him up at the 11 green, he hits it center, two putts, and puts on the green jacket. — 8 years ago

'a Vita

Rosso Classico Superiore Cirò Gaglioppo

Old Calabria is number one on my personal travel books top list, wrote by that British genius who was Norman Douglas. Now this is the optimum wine to pair with such a reading: rarity, daring, intensity... only to mention few of the features we'got stated in here. Name of the wine's: 'A Vita - La Vite, The Vine in Calabrian dialect in harmony with The Life/La Vita as well - it focuses from the start the insane complexity and discloses the fleeing of the whole subject in itself! Salute e lunga Vita, thou good Old Cirò! — 9 years ago
