Been sick for a week, not all the way better, but today is Valentine’s Day and we’re having wine with dinner. Aromatics are alluring with high toned red fruit & a black tea note. The palate shows beautifully ripe red fruit leading to darker spicier notes and a textural tannic grip. Lots to unpack over the years with this as these 16’s will only get better with time. Happy Valentine’s Day! — 5 years ago
No formal notes . Medium garnet Ruby. Quite floral still , light red fruits, cherry . Sweet fruits on the palate but quite tannic still , with refreshing and bright acidity . Quite a big wine on the palate , with darker fruits. Intense with good length . Starting to drink well from now , and over the next 10 years I would imagine — 7 months ago
Got into a northern Rhone last night. Dark purple. Youthful. Decanted for 2 hours to dissipate some of the heat from the alcohol. It opened up much better than the last bottle. It has a nice balance of peppery spice and blueberry/bramble. It also had some mint and a savoury hoisin side to it, although it notably lacked any hint of liquorice. I’m okay with that as that really isn’t my draw. It has a very well defined structure but tannins are not grippy; just pleasantly present. Medium plus acidity, medium alcohol, medium tannin. A perfect accompaniment to our night by the fire. Could easily last and suggest to most palates that they wait another 5-10+. Probably best with food. — 7 years ago
