This bottle was a bit different than my first two, starting with the very intriguing bouquet that reminded me of smelling summer berry bushes - a sort of fresh, slightly herbal quality mixed with sweeter fruit scents. The palate was red and black raspberries complemented by ripe peach, mildly assertive black pepper/spice, and a cool menthol on the close. If that sounds like an unusual mix of flavors, it is. With all the bad pub about the 2011 California vintage I wanted to try the Merry Edwards that I got on sale. My store of choice originally had it priced at $79.99 and I bought it for $29.99, WHAT! That's right $29.99, lucky me and what a good discovery. On the nose I get black cherry, black raspberry some clove and caramel nuances. On my first taste my eyes lit up and a big smile came to my lips. There is sweet dark fruit of black cherry, raspberry, blueberry, and cranberry. There is a smooth silky mouth feel with medium tanning and lip smacking acidity. The well balanced melding of all aspects in this wine makes for an enjoyable evening. — 11 years ago
